BREAKING NEWS: John Wall Cited by the Law

We got word early this morning that 2009 recruit and #1 PG John Wall was cited last night on misdemeanor charges of breaking and entering. We were hoping that it was minor enough that it would blow over and we would not have to report this, but when you're the #1 prep player in the world, things have a way of leaking.

Authorities said it was in connection with an April 27 break-in at a home at 3924 Laurel Glen Drive in Raleigh.

This isn't the best turn of events for the uber prospect who was thought to be trimming his list today. We'll have more when we can track down more information, but until then let's realize that all the facts are not out yet. Nothing was stolen, and John was only seen leaving the area...so for what its worth...John didn't break anything, and it's yet to be seen if he even entered. Let's all wait to pass judgment, as I feel this is a lot less serious then some are making it out to be.

As a kid in his position.....you have GOT to be smarter than this.

I hope things work out well for the kid but he certainly hasn't done himself any favors in the court of public opinion. From all accounts he is a pretty good kid....but as we all know........perception is reality.

How does this effect his recruitment? expecting anybody (or state) to remove their scholarship offer?? what in the world was he thinking 1 week before he graduates????

Truly sad. I wonder if Word of God will allow him to graduate, on time. Colleges may rescind their scholarship offers (not Calipari). It looks like another chapter in the crazy Soap Opera that John Wall's life has turned into.
There is so much pressure on young men in these situations, that you have to expect them to act out. Also, John was forced to grow up really fast. His Father passing away, his mother's illness, and his own stardom are all contributing factors. Sadly, none of that excuses bad judgment in the eyes of the public or in the eyes of the law.
Still, I wish him greatness. Go Pack.

To clarify -- he was not "arrested," but rather "cited" by police.

    Dear John Wall,
We still love you. This is clearly a case of a UNC conspiracy to discredit you.

I don't think this will have much of an impact on his recruiting. If he's notified coaches of hi intentions (as far as the list trimming goes)...this would be the prime opportunity for them to "stop recruiting" John, before he drops them from his list. just a hunch though.

The kid gets cited, which I am absolutely sure will be something so stupid and will never affect his career/decision/or character, and NC State recruiting boards feel that it is a good idea to publicize even more than WRAL's breaking news. Great job NCSU!!! The kid is probably pissed off he's in such a stupid situation now he has to look at recruiting boards, and yes I do think a 19 year looks at recruiting boards, and see his face on one of the schools he was debating on going to. Stupid move PackPride and WPH!!!

    ^ Sorry Kris,
Although we like to keep all of our news 100% positive, we are also dedicated to keeping everyone up to date with everything going on in recruiting. What if our staff decides to pull the offer (which they probably won't). People will go haywire on here ripping our staff to pieces.

It's news and while we try to bring the good out of every story involving the Wolfpack, sometimes bad news is just bad news.

We will however, remove his picture from the article.

^To add to this, please understand that we don't just look at John, or this situation, as a news piece. But, when anything has an impact on our program, good or bad, we feel it is our job to report it. We feel like as State fans, you deserve to the know the truth. Hope everyone understands.

Until he is charged with a crime I do not listen to the media. I hear the story and the rumors but let's give this kid the benefit of the doubt ! Come to the Wolfpack we will take you in John We love you!!

DeShawn Painter is this kid coming to NC State yes or no?

As far as John Wall story goes I really dont care as long as he comes to NC State and brings us victories he can break and enter anywhere he wants as far as im concerned. Memphis,Kentucky, and UNC all recruit convicts and jailbirds so why should it bother us

This is being blown WAY out of proportion on some of the boards and on WRAL. Yeah, he made a real silly move, but it's not THAT bad. From eerything I've heard (and hopefully i'm not spreading false rumors)there was NO forced entry, NOTHING was stolen, and it was a vacant house. Sure, he broke the law and made a dumb mistake, but how many teenagers don't? I know I did. I was just lucky enough to have never been caught.

Kris- what are you talking about? If WPH decided to not report this I would be pissed off. Heck, I come here because it's the only place on the web i can go and not have to fish through a bunch of idiots calling each other names to find information, but to call out wph for posting this isn't right. It's not their fault, it's john walls fault this happened..and to not report news like this would be irresponsible of them to say the least.

For all of you that don't have the whole story, please get the whole story before you pass judegment.

He was just hanging with a girl in a vacant, forclosed, and eveidently unlocked vacant house.

No Drugs, No Alchohol, No violence. Just hanging with a girl. He was "cited". How many do you know that were "cited" with a drinking ticket during high school or college???? Same level of citation/ticket.

Thanks for putting this story up WPH... nothing wrong with looking through Pack colored glasses, but to just stick your head in the sand and act like this hasn't occurred, like some here are suggesting, is simply absurd.

To all the people who don't understand where I'm coming from. All I'm doing is comparing NCSU recruiting websites to everyone else who is recruiting John. I dont see JW face plastered on their sites. I guess NCSU is the only one worried about the latest news whereas everyone else is just worried about landing a top notch recruit. I don't think it changes anything (schools pulling offers, etc..) but could it change his perception of a school is to be debated. Its obvious where I stand.

Wolfman I'll try to let you know next time JW is spotted jaywalking.

WPH I'm sorry if I came off unappreciative of the work you guys do and the time you put into to it. Its just my opinion that this could have been swept under the rug unless there is a dramatic new twist.

    ^ Kris,
We completely understand what you are saying and hey we feel the same way, in a sense.

We found out about this late last night and did not post it for that very reason. We hoped it was going to be swept under the rug... however when WRAL and ESPN decided to run the story we felt we were obligated to put something up to inform the fans. If we did not post it we would have been flooded with emails and comments about why we haven't put something out about it.

I think everyone that visits this site knows that we care deeply for NC State University and we hope that what we do is in someway or another helping our program. We also feel that it is our job to keep you updated on everything that concerns wolfpack basketball. I'm sorry if you feel we've gone against what we stand for, but we feel as if in certain cases, such as this, we must give bad news, simply b/c it is important news.

    Kris:

Stop making a big deal out of the whole situation. Grow up Kid! Wolfpack Hoops is amazing and they didnt fabricate the story John Wall did something wrong and it was not Wolfpack Hoops fault. They did not go in the vacant house with John and make him stay did they? Give me a break. They simply ran the story just like ESPN, WRAL, and many many many other sites. The fact of the matter it can not be covered up with that much exposure and it was simply wrong. We are not saying we do not want him at NC State we are just saying that he broke the law and it was ran for the truth of the article. WOW !

Wolfpack4eva I guess Duke, Miami, Kentucky, and Baylor are all sticking there head in the sand. Remember we're not recruiting against Wral, N&O, or ESPN. By the way, I was born in 1981. I never got a chance to wear Pack colored glasses. I guess I'm just looking at it from a recruit or parents point of view and I wouldn't want a school recruiting my kid augmenting something so silly. These articles get hits, thats completely understandable from a news source logic. And yes it generates alot of hits on our websites too but at what cost?

WPH, I can tell you are truly torn on what to do in these cases and I'm just giving you a different perceptive. These recruiting sites are having more and more of an impact on the whole recruitment process and we need to iron certain things out.

Apparently no one else see's it the same way as I do. Or atleast not any ncsu fans. Maybe we aren't even on his short list but these issues will come up in the future and I see this site doing alot of good so I'm only trying to provide constructive criticism.

i would have more of a problem with WPH not commenting on this issue... that would be in line with cuban or Iranina news propaganda IMO

Wolfpack Hoops, i think you did the right thing by running the story. to not run the story becasue it would hurt the recruitment of Wall would be unethical.
as to the arrest, its seems more like trespassing to me than anything else although that wasn't what he was charged with. sbas2

Seriously guys, this should be a non-issue unless it's found that JW was involved in something more than just entering an abandoned home. He's 18, most of us did things much dumber than this at that age and were merely lucky to not get caught. WPH, if people can't understand that you should have put this up then they just don't get it. I can't tell you how many State fans mention this site in a good light! Your site is truly a breath of fresh air! Keep up the good work!!!

Hey guys...we just had to erase a few comments because it was starting to get a bit heated and a little too back and forth.

I understand both points of view...however the whole idea behind this site is to give Pack fans a place to come where they don't have to deal with the arguing of other fans.

Lets just agree to disagree on this situation. Kris I can see where you are coming from and I think you see where we are coming from. I definitely don't mind everyone giving their opinions (positive and negative) however lets please keep it civil and stick to the subject.

Thanks! I just don't want this to turn into what the message boards have turned into on other sites.

I think we can all agree about that! : )

Not to split hairs, but "breaking" in the legal since deals with breaking the the plane or the threshold of the dwelling. It has nothing to do with physical damage caused while entering or while on the premises
