Bulls Win Opener Over Spurs, Melo Too Much For Blazers

Vinny Del Negro, former NC State guard and current head coach of the Chicago Bulls, guided a young Bulls team to a 92-85 victory over the Spurs last night in their season opener. They played a selfless and efficient brand of basketball, with 6 players finishing the game in double figures. They also had 20 assists on the night, and only 9 turnovers. The Bulls finished with a 41-41 record and went to the playoffs last season in Del Negro's first year as the head coach. The Bulls play tonight versus the Celtics on ESPN at 8pm.

Also, Carmelo Anthony's 41 point performance last night was too much for the Blazers, as the Nuggets won 97-94. Brandon Roy led the Blazers with 30 points. Tomorrow night Portland goes on the road against Houston at 8:30pm.

^I can understand when I hear younger fans having trouble believing that NC State actually can, AND SHOULD, be competing with the likes of unc and Duke. Hell, those stats that AppLax linked haven't had anything added to them in over twenty years. That's like wiping the slate for one fifth of the total time that NC State's BB program has even been in existence.

    PIT-TEE-FULL!!!

That's all about to change though.

Oh yeah, regarding the topic of the thread, yet another former NC State BB player, still very much involved with the sport that he loves, and doing it on the very highest level possible. And once again, WHO was it that COACHED and helped to shape that current PROFESSIONAL BB COACH back when he was in college??? And WHY IN HELL is that former Coach's name not plastered ALL OVER the RBC for EVERYONE on the planet to see???!!!

Like I've said many times before, Jim Valvano coached BASKETBALL, and nothing else. So, just look around these MANY years later if you have any doubts as just how good he really was. Good for college BB, good for NC State University, and especially good for those kids who put their faith in him when they were just starting out.

I'll never understand NC State's stance on this. Oh wait, yes I do understand NC State's stance, completely. They are so much more worried about their own appearances, and their own inability to know when and how to tell a reporter that he doesn't know what he's talking about, then they are interested in the huge gains they could have been benefitting from OVER THE PAST TWENTY PLUS YEARS, "IF" they would have only had the vision and the BALLS to stand up and claim everything about Jim Valvano from day one.

It all kinda chaps my hide.

Well, since it hasn't appeared, I guess maybe my last comment was a bit too much for this site. It's a strange coincidence but for the first time in about a month, I just clicked on that other NC State "fans" site. While I don't normally point out what "they're" saying over there, they do have a interesting thread going about NC State's overall history in athletics.

Of course, one of the site owners fails to notice that the FB program hasn't doing so well of late either, and he completely and totally ignores anything and everything about FB/FB coaches, and goes straight into his favorite subject, blubbering on and on about "the BB coaches we could have had". What a JOKE!!!

Well WPH, since no one will probably ever check back on this thread again anyway, let me put it this way...

Look at the guy's/Coach's picture on this thread, and then go back to the main page and look at guy's/Coach's picture on the thread before this one. Notice any parallels? Now, look around in the world of BASKETBALL, and see how many others are STILL out there from that brief time period/era, still involved in BASKETBALL at high levels, and then try to tell me that Jim Valvano was not one THE BEST EVER at what he did.

His name should be plastered ALL OVER NC STATE UNIVERSITY, EVERYWHERE, and in the RBC ESPECIALLY!!! Why it is not, and all that has been lost because of it, is something that I'll NEVER even begin to comprehend.

Uh, sorry EVERYBODY for posting the same thoughts over and over again, but the moderator held onto to my comments a little longer than normal, and patience is NOT one of my strong suits. I kept trying to tone it down enough to get my point across without being so bold about it. Anyway, my apologies once again.

Oh yeah, thanks to WPH for FINALLY :) posting my comments, as well as making me work my butt off to get a point a point across.
