Brandon Costner to Test the Waters; Will Not Return

We've received word from a source close to the Wolfpack program that "it seems as if redshirt junior Brandon Costner is not planning on returning next year". This is confirming what numerous media sources are also reporting. From what we understand Brandon may test the NBA and or the European waters. This would leave a hole in the Wolfpack frontcourt, soon to be filled by freshman big man Richard Howell and returning senior Dennis Horner.

His dad most likely has some connections in Europe, so he'll probably catch on with a team there. The question is what if he pulls out of the draft, and doesn't catch on with a team overseas? Does he attempt to come back to the Pack? Does Sidney allow that? It's most likely something that was talked about in the meeting they had last week, and something we may never know until it happens. As more comes out, we will pass it on.

Brandon had a truly peculiar tenure at NC State. He was dubbed the next big thing at NC State as a freshman, but after a knee injury and the addition of JJ Hickson his sophomore year, Brandon fell from grace a bit. He found himself a scape goat and target for criticism from the fans and media as his numbers dipped considerably.

Brandon will leave NC State with his degree and we at Wolfpack Hoops wish him all the luck in the world. Wherever you end up we will be following you and updating Wolfpack Nation on your progress.

Wolfpack Hoops, what do you know about Josh Davis? It looks like he just committed to the Pack.

We actually just received a call about that about an hour ago. To be honest, we do not know much about him right now. We've heard of his game and heard that the Pack had some interest about a month ago.

We'll be talking to people from Athens and hopefully Josh himself and have a nice piece about him coming shortly.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

I appreciate you guys hard work getting information for us true hardcore Wolfpack Fans. For whatever it is worth I have seen this kid play about 10 times this year and he is very very good. I am not sure why he did not get any offers from big schools but I am surely glad that we picked him up. He is a basketball player with a good head on his shoulders and should help NC State next year. He will be a great teammate. Is there any news on Jordan Vandenberg? are we still in the mix for him?? 1 last question is there any sort of update at all on John Wall? I would appreciate this information thanks so much guys !! GO PACK

It looks like Scout is now reporting that Costner will indeed test the waters and is not returning next year. Thanks again for all you do. This is a great website, and hopefully, we'll be getting more good news about incoming recruits in the next several weeks.

    Travis,
Thanks for the input on Davis. From what we're hearing this kid is an exciting player, with a high ceiling. I haven't heard much about his shortcomings other than his free throw % so we'll hope we stole one here.

As for Vandenberg, I haven't really heard much about his process. I think he's still deciding but I'm not 100% sure. We'll try to track something down on that.

As for Wall, we have a pretty good source on him and we have a call out to that very source tonight. If there is an update you'll have it by tonight or tomorrow.

Thanks for the support and we'll keep working hard to bring you the best NC State basketball info on the web.

I have to say that it will be interesting to see what Sid will be able to do next year now that he has pretty much only his recruits on the wolfpack team now. Maybe his true colors will shine now.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

    Great site, love the info!

Question do you have any info on possible recruits Mat Piotrowski and/or Sandi Marcius? Both are big guys, which we could use to help Tracy Smith! But are they ACC quality?

I do know that Sidney evaluated Marcius and was not all that impressed.

Piotrowski I'm not so sure about. I havent really heard much on him.

I think well be a smaller, more athletic team next year and we'll really rely on our young guys. I don't think Sid is going to waste a scholarship on a project player. The Davis kid was NOT a fallback. We were hoping to have him go to a prep school for a year and wait on a 2010 scholly from us ,or walk on for a year. But BC and Trevor leaving gave us an opening, so we went to him right away. Sid likes him and likes him a lot.
