2009 PF DeShawn Painter Considering NC State

Wolfpack Hoops has spoken with a source which has informed us that just yesterday Sidney Lowe and Pete Strickland made a visit to a certain 2009 4Star Power Forward named DeShawn Painter. NC State was on Painter's radar early in the process, but he decided to commit to Florida. We're not sure the reasoning behind the move, but Deshawn decided to decommit, leaving him one of the top big men still left on the market. The question about Painter is, and has been, whether he'll be able to qualify or not. Most coaches, including the NC State staff, believed he'd be forced to reclassify as a 2010 player. However, Painter told the NC State staff that he will be able to qualify and play in 2009. We were told that he still has some work to do and him being able to qualify is no done deal, but he is listing NC State along with Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Marquette(That list according to ESPN). Apparently there was no scholarship offered yesterday, but you can believe the staff is simply waiting to make sure his statement of qualifying for 2009 is legit.

Painter is listed as the #64 player in his class overall and the #19 Power Forward. He stands at 6'9 and weighs in at around 200lbs. He is a wiry athlete with lots of bounce and decent midrange game. Painter is quick of his feet and can finish above the rim with ease. He's still a little thin, but has a frame that could add muscle, which would be beneficial for the bruising a season in the ACC will give you. A lot of people have wondered why it's been so quiet on the recruiting front in Raleigh and were questioning what the staff had planned. Well, here is just another reason to trust Sid and his men, they are on top of things, and a commitment from Painter would go a long way in suring up a front court in desperate need of another big body. NC State would give Painter the chance to get some immediate playing time, something not a whole lot of schools can offer a freshman.

Check out Painter's game:

Sid desperately needs a big man.
Tracy Smith is 6'7" at best and Horner has no interest in playing the post. We need Painter and one more big man. We have enough guards.

Would love to land this kid. We are in desperate need of another big. Everything he is saying is that he wants to go somewhere where he can play right away. That would definitely be NC STATE. Hopefully, he can get his grades right and join an awesome 2009 recruiting class. A commmitment from him would likely land us the in the top 10 nationally. Throw in Harrow in 2010 and we are on our way.

Sidney Lowe is doing his thing. While everyone was all over the message boards saying fire Sidney and fire Fowler he was blocking out all of the negativity around the NC State boards and he has done a tremendous job! I think we honestly all our Sidney Lowe and our team an apology for not believing in him. Sidney Lowe bleeds NC State red just like each of us and I am DAMN proud to be a NC State fan! If we can get this Painter kid bringing him in with Richard Howell , Scott Wood, Lorenzo Brown, Josh Davis that has 100% got to be a Top 15 recruiting class and those 2 bigs would play right away ! Now if we get John Wall which I feel confident we will because he wants to play at home and playing for UNC I think is out of the question and Duke would be a bad move because Coach K dont like 1 and done players PLUS his mom loves the pack (THANKS MOM WE LOVE YOU) so if we pull Wall then we have got to jump into the Top 5 recruiting class in America. Sidney Lowe promised doing thing's his way and he has absolutely put a stamp on that by going after game changing players! Thanks Sidney thanks Towe thanks Strickland and thanks Harris lets get the last 2 pieces to the puzzle in this Painter kid and Wall and lets hang some banners in the RBC Center baby !!!!!!!!!! Also lay off Smith only being 6'7 he plays bigger and he knows how to use his body to rebound and score with anyone in the acc just needs to work defensively on getting better. I am pumped for next years team the Herbies are gone

I guess this is why Donovan was in town the other day. He now has (at least) one more scholarship to give. Although, rumor has it that he was in town to watch Leslie rather than Wall.
DeShawn looks like he would be an excellent fit in Raleigh. The next few recruiting classes are starting to garner some positive attention. Way to go Sid. And, Go Pack!

There's no question, if we get Painter, we're Top5. Wall? Definite Top 1 or 2. I'm afraid that's wishful thinking though (although maybe not...)

I'm very on board with this prospect and know that the meeting went great- all I have ever heard is that Strickland and Lowe are GREAT people to meet with. Having them both together is something like a 99.99% great impression.

One advantage is that we have a history with him from last year- he was one of of first offers for 09 class if I recall.

    1) Length in both height and arms 2) Spring off the floor.
Both these things can go a long way in overcoming overall physical strength. Remember a certain flag pole thin C who once palyed for Cal at UMass forever ago?

I also think in that little bit of vid that his footwork for a big man is on par with most players in the ACC. He showed some nice explosion and coordination in some post moves.

Keep subbing him in/out with Tracy and leave Richard and Dennis as exclusive 4's who can pass/shoot/dribble and thats a strong enough ACC front line to go to battle with.

"We need Painter and one more big man."

Don't forget Howell. If we could land Painter (or another big man of his quality), I think we'll be doing just fine for big men. (and Davis might even get a few minutes here-and-there as a "big")

We are definitely looking thin in the post. We certainly could use painters size. Mr. Painter if PT is what you're looking for PT is definitely something we'll have for you at State. Get the academics straight and go ahead commit. Immediate playing time, top notch facilities and stadium, one of the most competitive conferences, voted the best city to live in (raleigh), one of the best public schools in the nation, a great coach that has spent over a decade in the NBA and has won championships on all levels of basketball just not coaching college basketball, not yet that is ;) Come on down we need you
