DeShawn Painter: Still No Decision

Ok, so this one was a challenge. Maybe it was the fact that it was Mother's Day or the fact that there wasn't much news to be had on the NC State end, but we weren't having much luck getting any DeShawn Painter updates last night...however, don't fret, after a few phone calls we finally got what we wanted.

According to a reliable Maryland source "It's been kind of quiet around here (concerning Painter). I know they were hoping for a commitment but they did not get one."

Although it's only a small bit of information, the source was certain Painter did not accept an offer from Maryland on his visit. So what does that mean for the Pack? It's surely a good thing since, as we reported earlier, the NC State staff felt good about how DeShawn's visit went when he came to Raleigh. The fact that Painter left Maryland without accepting anything is what the Pack was hoping for. We don't know the specifics of his Maryland visit, but we have someone working on that, so hopefully we can give you a run down on just what the College Park visit entailed. This was DeShawn's final official visit, as all three of the schools he was considering have been visited (VT, NC State, Maryland). Not exactly sure when we should be expecting a decision but we'll keep our eyes and ears open.

Not a surprise to me at all, I told you guys the whole entire week-end he went there just to show respect because they did recruit him earlier before he chose Florida. He is going to commit to NC STATE ! I guess I don't know anything because nobody wants to believe me but you will all see very very very soon. He is a Wolfpacker!

Anonymous, do you stand by your Wall comments as well?

No Mr. Anon, we all WANT to believe you...we just can't because you have no proof. Same with your assertions about Wall.

Oh lord.......is this the same anonymous claiming both Painter and Wall to NC State?

Again, I hope you are right...and I think you are on Painter but I guess time will tell.

He seems like a good kid and would be a great addition to the 2009 class. On a seperate note, apparently Wall will trim his lists of schools VERY soon.

Mr. Anon (not me the other Mr. Anon) said that Wall would commit to NC State in 48-72 hours. That was about 4 days ago. I guess those were "working hours" =)

    Alright,
I'm going to try to put out this fire before it gets to big. Let's not have a war today with Mr. Anon. It is clear that he believes that his claims are still in order. It is also clear that he will not give any clear cut evidence that is going to please your appetite. He is entitled to his claim and there is no need to for a battle to ensue. It is permissible to disagree with one another civilly and objectively. The way I see it, Mr. Anon isn't going to answer any questions in detail, but he is welcome to offer any that he has. This is my attempt to simmer a fire before it ignites. I'm all about this site being interactive, but let's interact about something of substance. Thanks.

The Baltimore Sun is reporting that most feel that Painter is down to VA Tech and Maryland.

I think you are reading an old Baltimore Sun article there Mr. Anon. That was posted before his visits.

Last week when I had talked to someone in the know he said the visit went real well and he had fun interacting with Painter and Painter seemed to have enjoyed his visit. However, I guess it all depends on what he thinks, his family and the ones close to him think. Seems like he has people who like MD and possibly one or two people who like NCSU so lets see what Painter does.

Technically they don't have to sign right? As long as they have an understanding with the university, they can simply show up on campus on the first day of classes correct? If so, you may not get a signature... at least not any time soon.

Mr. Anon, I believe that you may be right about Painter, but I'm still doubting that Wall is coming. When do you expect the announcements?

I believe this is correct. I received a grant-in-aid to play football at UT-Chattanooga and never technically signed anything. Maybe 1-AA/FCS is differnt.

You do not have to sign anything. But, if you do not sign, you are not guaranteed to have a scholarship. Signing the LOI basically guarantees that the player has a scholarship.

sawethere is also a good aspect to not signing an LOI. If the coach leaves you are not bound to the school.

After decommitting from a school it seems a smart option to let this process settle in for a duration. I would guess each respective coach, Lowe, Greenburg and Williams, let the young man know that there was an offer there with his name on it and no other prospect (not initialed JW) would slip in there before his mind was made up.

Obviously this favors NC State a ton IMO since the Lowe and Harris combo have a big advantage personality wise the way they relate to people vs the other two. X's & O's there might not be many better in the ACC then these two men up north but they have the reputation- and deservedly so- of being class A ego maniacal head coaches.

I have seen a couple reports on the internet that John Wall has trimmed his list to 4 school : Duke, Kentucky, Miami, and Florida. Can you verify this WPH or is it just speculation like everything else.

^FWIW Scout updated John's profile recently. It lists NC State, Kentucky, Miami and Duke as Medium Interest and Baylor, Florida, Kansas and UNC as Low Interest.
