Fells Turning Heads

Courtney Fells has always been a hard working, good athlete with a milky jumper. Now the NBA scouts are starting to take notice. Fells impressed at his workout with San Antonio as he shot the ball well and played great defense. The NBA scouts have continually compared him to a young Micheal Finley according to his agent.

We've also received word that Courtney has been promised a spot on a summer league team, however we can not disclose which team. This is good news as this gives the NBA scouts an extended look at players they are interested in. It will also give us all a chance to check out Courtney on ESPN where they televise some of the summer league games. Courtney will also be working out for the Charlotte Bobcats on June 4th. We'll stay on this situation as it looks like Fells is definitely starting to turn some heads.

Steve (Cleveland): What mid range player (Say in the 30-70 range), do you think has a chance to make an impact above their rank and make a freshman all american team.

Paul Biancardi: Steve, that's an excellent question. Some kids that come to mind are C.J. Harris who'll be at Wake, Joey Brooks at ND, Scott Wood at NC State, Sam Dower at Gonzaga, Carlos Lopez going to UNLV, Darius Theus to VCU and Keith Clanton at Central Florida are all ranked in the mid-major category and have a chance to be some of the best freshman in their leagues.

Off Topic? This post illustrates the need for a forum. I understand that the logistics may get in the way for now, but maybe WPH's could consider an open thread periodically until forums are introduced. Any thoughts?
Scott Wood is going to surprise people. Some analysts can see it coming, but most aren't paying attention...yet. Go Pack!

Don't have the link, but go to ESPN, Men's Basketball, Recruiting and it's inthe chat wrap.

Suppose it was off topic - my bad. But really, ppack3, could you really stand another post that says, "What a great young man, we are proud of you, good luck and go pack!" Who wants to read a string of 30 comments that say exactly that?

Anyway, you're right. Back to the topic, Fells has always been built like an NBA player. Tremendous athlete, solid jumper (when he's on), and a serious defensive game. His biggest concer in the summer league is going to be keeping a consistent effort.

I for one like the fact that this site doesn't have forums!! Couldn't the scott wood comment have gone under the previous post (espn ranking our class #11)?

As for Fells, would love to see him play in the NBA. Frankly, I've been surprised at how well he's done in prep for the draft. I am guessing his ankle needed a lengthy rest and now we are seeing what he can do full speed.

Going into last year I thought Fells, not Brandon, would be our best player. Not to knock Fells, but he made a lot of bad mistakes (low bball IQ) and he can't dribble the ball. In Sendek set offenses the players didn't need to dribble that much but Sidney is trying to move the ball and run up and down the court. The transition really hurt Sidney. I'm hoping we get some more wins this year and make it to tourney. Go PAck

I do see your point about Forums, Jeff, and I've heard others say similar things. I would like an open thread periodically, and maybe that would be better for my 'random thoughts.' Some folks just post on the first article that is at the top of the page, and that's how you get cross comments. I've never actually used a forum, so I don't have the experience to say that they are good or bad, I'm just trying to find a way to streamline the situation. It is not something that I'm losing sleep over, but I would think that WPH is somewhat open to suggestion.

Interesting to see him trying out for the Bobcats. I could see them picking him up after the draft as a bargain free agent. Someone to play defense and hit the open 3, exactly what Larry Brown wants. And their certainly not afraid of D-League/undrafted free agents what with (previously) Matt Carroll, Dontell Jefferson, and Martin Cartier. Plus they need some State Red to balance out all that disgusting carolina blue on their roster. Rumors of getting Gerald Henderson in the draft would make for a very strange collection of ACC players on that team.
