NC Pro-Am Tuesday Night Recap (7/7/09)

We got the chance to head out to the NC Pro-Am league last night at NCCU and we were entertained by C.J. Williams, Marcus Melvin, Jordan Collins and Simon Harris. We learned that just because a player's name is on the roster sheet, it doesn't mean that they will necessarily be in attendance. For instance, in the 7pm game C.J. Leslie and Rodney Purvis were not present because they were both out on the AAU circuit. We did get to see Bo Ingram though, who has been a player on the Pack's radar in the past. He led Team WR Starkey to a 46-43 victory with 17 points. He was clutch down the stretch and carried his team to a come-from-behind victory. Ingram showcased a good shooting touch, an ability to attack the basket along with solid defensive play. Team Starkey is now 1-0.

In the 8pm game Julius Mays wasn't in the building because he had strep, but C.J. Williams was in the house. He showcased a complete game, putting up 10 points (4-10 FG), 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks. He scored on a pull-up jumper on the break, drained 2 three-pointers, and caught a two-handed alley-oop on the break. One of his blocks was on ACC rival Jon Scheyer. C.J. started the game hitting his first two shots, but then went into a drought, missing his next 6 shots. In spite of this, C.J. exuded confidence at the end of the game hitting a three with less than a minute to go to bring the game within reach for Team P.J. Tucker. At the end of regulation, Team P.J. Tucker fell to Team Duhon 76-69. Team P.J. Tucker is now 0-2. We caught film of C.J. last night, and we will have it up in the near future.

In the final game of the night, Team Lucky 7 defeated Team Navy 58-46. Josh Powell was not in attendance because he had business to attend to back in L.A, but Marcus Melvin, Jordan Collins and Simon Harris comprised the NC posse on Team Lucky 7. It was fun to watch these three. Jordan still has a soft touch, Melvin still craves the three-ball, and Simon still lurks around the rim. Team Lucky 7 was led by Jameson Curry's 19 points and they are now 1-0.

Bummer on Julius being sick...I was hoping of hearing a continuation of his success of leading the winning squad each time out just as he did down the stretch in practice last season.

Hope he recovers soon, I mean strep in summer man, true bummer.

I was there and here are my thoughts on the Pack guys.

CJ Williams- Though he made a few shots he didn't play with the intensity on the defensive end that Jon Scheyer or any of the other guys played with. The atmosphere was lacking for sure but i still expected more effort. He also made a critical turnover (dribbling the ball off Mason Plumlee and out of bounds) under 20 seconds in the game.

On the other hand i was happy to see Marcus Melvin, Jordan Collins and Simon Harris come out. Would have loved to see some of Horner and Mays who were also on the rosters.
