Luke Cothron Update

We just told you that, 2010 NC State Recruit, Luke Cothron will be transferring up north to Durham Academy in Connecticut. So, what does this mean for NC State? Many media sources have made this out to be a big blow to the recruiting efforts of the Wolfpack, and a big plus for northern schools such as UCONN. We spoke with Luke to clear some of those questions up and let him talk about the move.

I am moving to a new school. It's called Durham Prep in Durham, Connecticut. As far as what would change with my recruitment is that I will now get to see a few more schools up North like UCONN, but as far as NC State is concerned, it has really impressed me and I still really like State a lot.

We'd also like to clear up a conflicting report that Cothron has now played at five different schools, when the correct number is four. Luke has played at Butler High, Nashville Christian, Flora MacDonald and now Durham Prep.

NC State is still hot on Cothron's trail and will continue to pursue the highly touted big man. We'll keep you updated on Luke's status throughout the season.

I'm sure he still "really likes us" but from all reports this means that schools like Arkansas and UConn are in the driver's seat. I hope I'm wrong and that big Luke comes and runs with the Pack.

Hopefully, he realizes the opportunity he would have playing with the likes of Harrow, Brown, Wood & CJ Williams. The middle of the lane will be WIDE open.

I hope in the near future he will realize that NC State is a great place to be right now. We are rising up the ranks by bringing in not only quality talent but also athletes with exceptional character. I am proud to be a Wolfpack fan and hope Luke will run with us. Lowe is doing a great job and will be here for the long-run.

Cothron went to Patterson Prep for a short while last year before transferring to Flora MacDonald. This is common knowledge, so hence five schools.

Luke asked us to specifically clear up the fact that he has only played at 4 schools...not 5.

Played at four, yes. Attended five. His transcript situation could be so messy now he'll end up a 21-year-old in the Class of 2011.

Could it be that will have attended 5 schools but only played basketball at 4 of them?

    ^^^
Luke was supposed to attend Patterson Prep, but he never actually walked in through the door and attended Patterson.

He also mentioned that he has recently been in contact with Coach Lowe, Towe, and Harris.

Thanks for clearing it up WPH. Even if Cothron doesn't pick State, I hope he has his academics in order since I realize he is older than most in his class.

Not trying to sound negative, but what circumstances causes a kid to bounce around from school to school like this?

this kid is not all what he's hyped up to be, parker is the real deal, and should be our primary target. cj leslie is an awesome and extremely talented player, but i personally dont think he's a good fit for our program, i believe sid would have his hands full with him. hopefully parker will commit and end all this drama

There's been some issues outside of basketball for the most part with Luke, which has led to the constant transferring.

He's a very good kid and extremely polite and he will find success wherever he goes.

That's all we'll say out of respect for the player.

No thanks...I say try to get Parker. We don't need any drama in our program.

WPH, If we miss out on Leslie and Cothron who are the next options if we are intent on getting a big? I know the Harris's were a possibility a while back but I doubt we are actively recruiting Tobias and we are not in the top 5 for D.(cant remember his full name) Harris. Any other bigs that you think could get an increase in attention? Or would we look for the best wing if we do miss out on Leslie and Cothron. JW about what you think...

What difference does it matter how many schools he attends. The kid is taking advantage of oppritunities because of his god given talent. I live about 10 minutes form flora mcdonald and had the privilidge to meet the coach last year and he was telling me all about luke. If you know anything about flora mcdonald you know that their not really known for their athletics, so I was a little confused when he was telling me about this kid that was blowing up the national rankings. The coach is a great guy and was an assistant at the laurinburg institute that produced a lot of great players, most of them memphis alum now. Luke is one of the best players i've ever seen play the game and we would be crazy to stop recruiting him because of him transfering high schools. When you have the talent this kid has you let it take you wherever it can. I wish him a great senior year, I'm sad I won't be able to watch him live this year but I hope he tears up conneticut this year and I can see him in red and white next year. Let the kid live!

I'm holding out hope that the relationship with Coach Lowe is solid enough to keep Cothron interested until the very end.

If we come out guns a blazin and turn some heads this year with a different brand of basketball then anything is possible recruiting wise. An elite caliber player will an offer and a solid relationship with Lowe already established will be hard pressed to walk away from the chance just because some other people think they know whats best.
