Here recently the youth of Los Angeles have had the opportunity to live a dream. These kids got to live a lavish life staying at Tropicana Gardens which featured a camp store, a recreation room and an all-you-can-eat buffet. They also received teaching from some of the best coaches that the high school and college ranks have to offer. Not to mention the fact that they received instruction from Laker Assistant Coach Jim Cleamons and got to hang out with 5 Laker players in Shannon Brown, Jordan Farmar, D.J. Mbenga, Sasha Vujacic and former NC State Forward Josh Powell. Josh acted as the spokesperson for the Laker representatives at the camp when he spoke with Mike Trudell, who writes for the Lakers Official Website.
"I can speak for my teammates when I say that we had a great time helping out the camp's instructors, who really knew what they were doing," added Josh Powell. "But more than anything else we just had a lot of fun hanging with the kids. My personal favorite part of the camp was catching alley-oops from the campers, and it's always cool to give back when you've been as fortunate as we have as NBA players."
"I think winning the title brought a little bit extra to Camp Lakers because the experience taught us a great deal," Powell continued. "And hopefully we were able to pass on some of that knowledge to the kids."
I know many kids that wouldn't be covetous at the opportunity to attend an event like Laker Camp. I probably wouldn't ever forget the fact that an NBA player took time out of his schedule to come pour into my life. Josh Powell just continues to make NC State fans proud.
