New Basketball Jersey Design Scrapped

The Technician is reporting that the new basketball jerseys that were unvailed last week will be scrapped. After the picture of the new look hit the internet, fans and students flooded message boards and email accounts voicing their dislike.

“We were looking for a positive outcome, but since this didn’t turn out that way, we’re more than willing to go back to the old way and move forward,” Athletic Director Lee Fowler said.

The jerseys were designed to bring "State" to the forefront, without taking out the "NC." Although some players reportedly like the new jersey, the decision was made to go back to a design similar to last year's.

“We certainly want our students and fans to come out and be supportive of our team, and we definitely don’t want that to be the reason that they don’t,” Head Coach Sidney Lowe said.

I think its big of the Admin and Coaching staff to understand the feelings of the wolfpack nation and to try to rectify them. I wish they would decide to higher a true designer to come up with some fresh ideas for our jerseys. Since the admin does listen to the fans so well, why not have 3 ideas and let the fans vote on their favorite??? bring the fans passion to another level and let them get a personalized feel to the program. Im not sure if last years jersey was much better than the proposed jersey to be straight honest. Little bland and bla if we are getting technical.

Something Sid said that I hope never happens, "and we definitely don’t want that to be the reason that they don’t attend,”

If your a state fan and you dont watch or attend a game because of the jerseys then your not a true fan. I really hope we dont have that kind of fan base that is so easily swayed by an article of clothing.

I didn't think the new design was that bad, but I'm glad they feel it's worth trying again. I guess the way to design something approved by the majority would be to have an on-line poll of several options? I don't know if that's what they'll do, but it would make more sense than trial-and-error.

Definitely a good move by those in charge. I didn't think they were horrible, but the name of the game, as far as marketing and merchandising goes, is giving the people what they want.

Funny mini saga that went down. I'm going to call Lee and get me one of the jerseys and where to all the games and be that guy...haha.

I'd let the players choose the design they liked best.

Get LikuidNation to come up with a design. Would love to see what their style would translate to in a jersey (since they seem to be a modern urban take on vintage design).

"I'd let the players choose the design they liked best."

Exactly. I think the whole thing is silly. Let the players and coaches choose the uniforms. Let the fans be fans.

If the fans don't want to buy the jersey replicas I would suggest doing something different. Lots of loss in merchandise sales. Of course, I haven't been the biggest fan of the available selection anyway.

It seems alot of people will not be happy until the old David Thompson era "STATE" jersey is brought back.

I would like to see the block "S" integrated into the new jerseys more prominently.

I think changing the uniform appearance from time to time is wonderful until you can get a successful brand going which does not happen until you start winning.

Is it me or did Fowler's response seem like I was being punished as a little kid? Everyone wanted to change the uniforms and when we finally did nobody liked them. Since nobody likes them we won't change at all. That is what his response read like to me or I may be just reading into it too much.

I wouldn't be so hard on them in this instance. They did try, I have them credit for that. It seemed like they floated the idea/jerseys out and were asking for a response, that's to be commended. Then they actually listened to that response, and they put everything on hold when they didn't the response they were searching for. Hopefully they have now have the imput they need to go back to the drawing board.

    If not, here's mine...

I'm old (in general) school, just give me some kind of a round collar, as I'm not really into man-cleavage, and I don't like to see t-shirts worn under a jersey either. Then put just a huge and very prominent S-T-A-T-E on there, and I'm happy as a clam.

I don't want to start a for-or-against thread about Lee Fowler but give him some credit for listening to the wolfpack faithful. I'd also like to know what you guys think about the NC being moved down below the STATE. That might look pretty good. Thoughts??

From day one I never really understood what the big deal was over these jerseys. We pack fans have enough adversity to deal with. Seems trivial imho.

I actually don't agree with just putting State on the front. It was a great run back then, but don't we think it's time to move on and think about the future rather than dwelling on the success of the past? These new jersey's were hideous for sure. But can't we come up with a modern look? I liked the piping on the sides. I love Duke's jerseys (not the ones with the ridiculous shadowy design on the back though). UNC's jersey's are evil, but sweet. It's not the 70's or 80's anymore and wearing an an old jersey isn't going to suddenly bring out the David Thompson in our players.
