UPDATE: Harrow Enjoys Raleigh... Cothron To Stay at Flora MacDonald

HARROW ENJOYS TRIP TO RALEIGH
2010, NC State commit, Ryan Harrow decided to take a trip up to Raleigh this past weekend, fueling speculation that he was, in fact, thinking about transferring to Word of God Christian Academy.

"It was a thought." Said Harrow, who's brother-in-law was named Word of God's Head Coach a few weeks ago. However, Ryan will be completing his senior year at Walton, in Marietta, GA, as we reported over a month ago.

As you all know, weekends rarely go by with Harrow not playing some type of basketball. In this case, it was a few pick-up games at Word of God and then a few over at NC State, at the Dail Center.

"It was really good. At Word of God there were some good local players, and then me and Cj (Leslie) went over to the Dail Center and played pick-up with the team." Ryan said.

Although no coaches were in attendance, all reports we've gotten were that Ryan may very well have been the best point guard in the Dail Center this weekend. Ryan told us that he enjoyed playing with CJ and that their games "really compliment each other."

PACK PLAYERS IMPRESSING AT DAIL
We also got a report from the pick-up game that there was a big time battle going on in the post, between new comer DeShawn Painter and Junior Tracy Smith. Reports are that Smith has put on some muscle, Painter is a real banger in the post, and both have a very aggressive mentality. Another interesting tidbit we heard is that, while Scott Wood has been lighting it up from 3, he took a break from the shooting, drove the lane, and threw down a dunk on an unnamed players head.

COTHRON STAYING IN NORTH CAROLINA
We know you heard the rumors, but we just recieved word, and now can confirm, that 2010 NC State recruit, Luke Cothron, will be staying in NC for his Senior season. Luke, who had previously decided to transfer to Durham Prep in Conneticut, now will instead be staying home and attending Flora MacDonald.

We are hearing that Luke's AAU coach who had be handling his recruitment, will no longer be doing so. This is a good turn of events for NC State fans, as it will keep one of their top targets right in their backyard. According to Luke, NC State will be in his top 3 to the very end. "You can quote me on that." he said.

Good to see Harrow and Leslie playing together and hopefully becoming friends. That could go a long way in landing Leslie.
    I agree with gmonnnaaa too.

Great news Ryan and Leslie playing together and Ryan giving him props plus Luke Staying in town seems things jus might be back on track for 2010. I also like to hear the news about the Painter and Smith battle because we have need a good inside game for some time now add Howell and that area sounds like it will be on the up. Wood is going to help alot this season finaly a 3 point threat and the way CJ Williams played in the pro am this summer I think that this team is going to shock folks this year and whatch out next year .I just hope the guys on the point step up this season my moneys on Mays to be the starter he seems the most poised . Thanks for the article guys keep up the good work.

Thank's WPH this is exactly the kind of post I needed to read. I think as undersized as he is Tracy has the ability to be all-ACC and I think Painter will be an immediate impact especially in the Florida game! I hope Ryan threw CJ some sick allies they could really add a level of athleticism we've needed for a long time. A good PG means a lot to a big man and I think CJ could play a huge role as a freshman rather than being a role player at UNC or Kentucky. And living 10 minutes from Red Springs I can't wait to see Luke in his senior season. Come out in your WPH shirts and let's support him, can't wait to see Word of God and Flora Mcdonald go head to head.

I saw what I expected and then some. I was happy to see something about the current team that I didn't really expect: Painter being a force and battling Smith. A lot of people might not have expected Wood to be dunking, I'm just curious if he dunked on another wing player or one of our bigs.

See everybody, I told you WPH wouldn't abandon us for that little Raycom floozy.

Seriously, THANKS WPH, good stuff all the way around. I always like hearing about Harrow, he's our ambassador of qua-lity in quan-ity. And then there's the mention of Wood's multi-dimensional talents, which were in evidence in his HS videos, but it's good to hear that he isn't shy about trying them out on the college boys as well. But what I like best, is hearing that two BB players are already out there going at it and challenging one another. That is the way that players get better as individuals. It's also the way that kids get to know exactly what their teammates are made of, and who they can really count on at crunchtime.

    I'm LIKIN' it!!!

even if this info leads to nothing (for example, if Wood doesn't dunk in a game til his junior year, if cothron chooses another school, if harrow ends up playing @ wog), i still enjoy a little inside information. take it all with a grain of salt, but i'm getting more than i would be getting. keep up the good work WPHs!

Hope that CJL will see that RH is a special pg and see what kind of talent will be on the team next year and decide to recommit. Add in his talent with RH, Lo B., and an experienced front line, this team could go a long way next year.

I'll take either CJL or Luke at this point. There might even be room for Luke and CJL if Johnny Thomas' knee doesn't hold up this year (although I wish him the best). Man that would be a super class.

Super class would be putting it rather mildy. To say a rising Senior in HS was the best PG in the gym is a big statement. I don't know who all was in attendance, but I would think that all of our self-proclaimed 'gym rats' would make sure they got to the Dail center for this, right?

Harrow/Brown/Leslie/Cothron would be a coup! This is sounding like a feasible possibility.

I hope Sid can fend off the wolves for another year. With these types of recruits considering running with the Pack, Sid has to be doing a lot of things right.

Damn, WPH's, now you have got me thinking about hoops! I didn't think that was possible this week! Great work!
    Brother PPack...Out.

    Go State!

I don't want to get anybodies hopes up or anything...but from everything I've understood about HS basketball...Luke Cothron and CJL aren't very fond of one another. I know Luke dropped about 40 points on WOG. So the chances of both of them committing are slim and none.

And please, please can we stop saying "if Johnny Thomas is able to go" or "If his knee holds up." That is really unfair. Don't even talk like that unless you have some inside info...and from everything Coach Lowe says in his summer press conferences, Johnny Thomas is fine and will be fine. I know he had a small surgery, but I think he's going to be fine and it wasn't anything major or detrimental at all. Johnny Thomas will be playing at N.C. State for at least two more years, and I bet you can say for 3 more years. And we'll all love him this next season...

    Whew...good rant.

PCooks - Good points. Having Thomas at full strength would be better than picking up a Leslie or a Cothron. Johnny has serious ability, and nobody has been on the "Johnny Thomas Bandwagon" more than I have. So, with your argument in mind, Harrow/Brown/Leslie(or Cothron), along with a healthy JT would be a great situation for our Basketball Program. I haven't seen much of Luke's game, save for WPH's vids, but Leslie is a high flier with absolutely unlimited potential. The only problem that I see with Leslie is that he won't be around long. Luke would probably stay more than a year. Harrow and Brown are going to have to bulk up for a couple of years before heading to the league, so pairing them with Luke would give them at least a year to gel/mesh styles before making a serious run at a championship.

Either way, if Thomas is truly ready to go, all of these recruits will be coming in to a set table. This year will be huge for Sid and Co. I wish them all the best, and I believe in what they are doing over there. Go Pack!

I have heard some really good reports about Scott Wood early. I actually think he may be a starter at some point this year. He will provide some really good scoring punch that is much needed.

Him dunking on somebody's head is a video I would like to watch.

    Great job, WPH.

Unless something unforeseen happens we wouldn't have enough room for CJ and Luke even if they were best of friends.

Well, Fowler and Lowe finally got rid of the new jersey design. Thankfully... They really should have just put "STATE" on their like Michigan State does. Anyway, glad to hear it. Just wanted to pass that along.

I'm hoping Scott Wood does crack the starting rotation because it would support the notion many of us have that Lowe and his staff brought in a very strong recruiting class- even w/o Zo's enrollment. Wood, Painter and Howell all bring different elements to the squad and if they perform up to their strengths and minimize some of the shortcomings that come with being Freshman then we will be in great shape.
