Ryan Harrow Talks With WPH At Sammy's

WPH: What are your thoughts on all of this?

RH: It's big for me. I know all of these people are out here to support me just because I'm coming to their school. That makes me feel good. I knew I had made the right decision, but now I really know. All these folks are here, and I haven't even started playing basketball yet.

WPH: What was going through your mind when you pulled into a packed parking lot?

RH: I didn't even expect all the people to be here. I thought it might just be a couple of people, and I was going to be cool with that. It's just a great feeling to see all of these people here.

WPH: What did you think of the question and answer session?

RH: You know me, I like the attention. I like goofing around. Anybody can talk to me and I'll be friendly and make them smile.

WPH: Your pretty good on the mic.

RH: I try, I try my best.

WPH: Is it nice to have this official and done?

RH: Yeah. I always knew I would be here at NC State ever since Coach Lowe walked in the door, but now that it's official, I know I'm into college now and now I can just focus on getting my grades and keep working on basketball.

WPH: Your head coach said your Walton High team is going to be better than last year.

RH: Definitely. We've got a lot of pieces. We're more of a friendly team. Last year it wasn't the greatest atmosphere. Sometimes we liked each other, other times we didn't. Now it's like everybody gets along.

WPH: Now it's Ryan Harrow's team?

RH: That's what they say, but I'm not that cocky type of person.

WPH: Your coach also said you've stepped up as a vocal leader.

RH: I want to win. It's my senior year. I've got a state championship ring in North Carolina, and now I'm trying to get one in Georgia to add to my collection.

WPH: Is it pretty cool for you and Lorenzo to both make it official on the same day?

RH: We always knew that we were going to be together. I guess the dream just keeps going.

WPH: Pretty cool for CJ to show up, huh?

RH: He just likes to mess around. I know he's going to be here with us. He just likes the attention just like me.

WPH: What would you like to tell the fans that couldn't make it out today?

RH: I really appreciate all of the support and I hope yall are ready for when I get here, because I'm ready to make yall happy.

Great inteview. I love this kid.

I also like the comment about CJ:

"He just likes to mess around. I know he's going to be here with us. He just likes the attention just like me."

They really do seem to have a genuine friendship.

I wouldn't read too much into the comment about Leslie. Ryan is a self proclaimed jokester. Obviously he wants him here and so do we, and we're obviously in the running. But Ryan does like to clown around.

Great interview. As always, WPH gets the good info!

RE: "WPH: Pretty cool for CJ to show up, huh?"

I was glad you were able to find a way to bring CJ Leslie into the conversation without it sounding like we're more interested in him that in RH. After all, this was RH's day.

The more I think about all the smoke surrounding CJL, the more I think there HAS to be some fire in there somewhere. I believe he'll end up at State.

I think I just read that today or yesterday, CJL proclaimed that there were no leaders in his recruitment. I have to believe this is his way of letting Florida and Kentucky down gently.

Bradford, you're right about that. But when you look at all the "evidence", people that want CJL at State HAVE to be happy with our chances now.

    1) RH and CJL are buddies now, and CJL likes playing with him.

    2) NC State HAS to be more appealing to recruits now with all the talent we have, and the talent coming in 2010.

    3) CJL skipped out on Kentucky's midnight madness, and didn't even make it there that entire weekend.

    4) CJL had a trip to Florida scheduled for November 6th, and didn't make it. (I'm positive I read that somewhere... WPH, can you verify this?)

    5) CJL has very recently stated that he has no leaders in his recruitment. An optimist (like me) takes that as a way of letting his previous leader (Kentucky most likely) down gently.

    6) Rumor has it that CJL was seen hanging around current NC State basketball players over Fall break.

I usually don't like to get my hopes up for something like this, but there's just so much smoke. There HAS to be a fire! :)

All I know is if I was a Kentucky fan, I'd be REALLY nervous right now about Kentucky's prospects for landing CJL.

I have to believe Ryan if he is confident in CJ. Clearly they do have a friendship and Ryan has never steared me wrong before. Lets think about the players Ryan has helped become more interested in NC State after playing together, Michael Parker (if NCSU had room & truly offered him I believe he would have signed), Luke Cothron (obviously we know how that worked out..), & now CJ is becoming "Re-Interested" in State. I love to see kids who not only want to play for NCSU but truly Love NCSU. I see big things coming to an arena near you... big...

And PS- Off topic but Im still mad most cites have UNX's recruiting class ahead of States... THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!! Makes you stay hungry!

So, could Sid not be there, legally? If not, I really hope he gets to see theses videos. The fans could have stayed home, or at work. But, they didn't. They made an honest man out of Sidney. Sid has been talking to these kids about our fans and the support that they bring to the team. CJ saw it yesterday. That, in itself, is pretty incredible, and I'm sure that it will have a lasting impact on CJ.

Having Ryan there with CJ, and LoBro inking on the same day means so very much for this University. The class that came in this year, and the class that is coming in next year should have every Wolfpack fan excited. If CJ comes, he can be a part of something special. If not, he can be sitting on the other sideline watching something special. We'd rather have you here, big fella. And, I will clear my schedule, in advance, for your signing!

    Go State!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does anyone believe that CJ has a better relationship with Calipari or Donovan than he does with Sid? That may not prove to be the 'tipping point' but it doesn't hurt. He can come here and play with guys that he is friends with, a Coach that he has a great relationship with, fans that don't quit...yada, yada, yada...

Kentucky will do anything to win right now. The down side to that is, what if you don't win? You get run out of town. National Championships are the expectation under Calipari. The other tough thing about Kentucky is that all of these kids want the PT and they want the ball. Ego management has to be one of the over-riding issues.

Florida, I don't know a lot about. I know that the girls in Gainsville are smokin' hot. I know that they haven't lived up to their billing since their runs. It has to be attractive. But, there's no Harrow. There's no Sidney. The SEC is not exactly 'Basketball Mecca.'

The other inherent advantages for a recruit choosing NC State are:

    1) Sid has a TON of NBA contacts.

    2) Sid knows the NBA game and how to prepare a college player for that type of environment.

    3) NBA GM's know these things.

If I'm CJ Leslie, I am looking at what my future school/coach can do to get me drafted high. That's where the money is, in the NBA. If CJ joins the three man class of 2010, the spotlight will be directed upon Raleigh, NC.

Wolfpackhoops, you actually seem to connect really well with the recruits. As weird as it sounds, I think you are adding to their experience. You don't come across as some nerdy journalist but rather a laid-back cool guy.

    Cheers

Anybody notice that Ryan has taken a page out of Sidney Lowe's book of Mustache's?

Oh, and PL, I completely understand the references to Hodge and DT. Ryan has that certain something that makes him a fan favorite. I think that is what we are really talking about here. Ryan, Jules and DT are all different players in their own rights. But, I was thinking, just before I read your comments, that Ryan carries himself in the mold of Thompson and Hodge. I have a feeling he is going to put his name in the record books just like Thompson and Hodge, too. To what extent, I don't know. But he IS going to leave his indelible mark on Wolfpack athletics. MMW's.

    Go State!
