2nd Half Slump Kills Pack; Miami Rolls 72-64
It wasn't a must win. Not too much was really on the line other than pride and another step up in the rankings. But it was seriously disappointing to watch the Pack, once again, play such a passionate and hard fought first half only to sleepwalk through the entire 2nd. There was actually a point where the Pack went over 12 minutes without a field goal.
Missing senior guard and leader Courtney Fells, it looked as if when the going got tough, they had nowhere to turn. Sophomores Javi Gonzalez and Tracy Smith paced the pack with 19 and 12 respectively...yet another game where the young guys took on all the weight. Costner added in 12 and played hard, but is still not quite all there.
The Wolfpack needed to stop McClinton, and did in the first half, limiting him to only 2 points, but McClinton got off nicely in the 2nd half and he ended up with 24. Lazy passes, bad shot selection, and careless play has been the recipe for disaster all year...as it was again last night.
So how does this game impact the Wolfpack as they roll into the ACC tournament? Who will they play and how do they match up? We'll answer those questions and more in next week's tournament preview. Stay Tuned!
