COUSINS TO MEMPHIS....?

(*UPDATE* at bottom)
It breaks our heart to report this, but 2009 recruit DeMarcus Cousins committed to Memphis this afternoon. This move has taken everyone by surprise, since State was waiting confidently for their official visit. Everyone on NC State's end felt very good about Cousins. Cousins had gone so far as to enroll in a German language class. NC State was the only school he was considering that required a language, so after finding that out he decided to take that class. That, coupled with the fact that his mom really liked the staff and Sidney, had the entire program feeling very good about the situation.

To our knowledge Cousins has actually yet to even take the SAT or ACT which he was rumored to just be waiting on the scores for. State was waiting for him to take care of this, then would pursue an official visit. That won't happen now since Cousins has committed to the Tigers. He committed to them while on an "unofficial" visit. GoogleMaps has Mobile at about 6 hours and 50 minutes from Memphis. It's hard for us to believe that Cousins just up and drove to visit Memphis when he could have just as easily waited a little while longer and had the whole trip payed for by the University. Something just doesn't feel right here. When we find out more, we will pass it on.

***UPDATE***
Apparently this commitment to Memphis, by Cousins, was a surprise to even his high school coach. What we're hearing is that as of last week, Cousins was trying to decide between NC State and Washington. So, from then until this afternoon something must have changed. Remember, DeMarcus has already changed his commitment once and can not sign an LOI (letter of intent) until he takes his SAT or ACT. So expect the Wolfpack staff to continue going at Cousins very hard and even trying to get him here on a visit before he signs anything. This is not a closed book just yet folks...stay tuned.

Love the way you cast aspersions towards the Memphis program and their recruiting..sounds like sour grapes. Cousins is a big time recruit headed to a big time program...the winningest college program in America over the last four years. Wake up and smell the coffee.

    1) No sour grapes here. Things just took a strange turn at the end.

    2) He will end up at NC State. I'll just put it that way.

I know Memphis would offer $$$ but I can't believe Cousins would take it.

But then everyone knows what a nice place Memphis is...

i find it hard to believe leslie would look elsewhere,he has known for a while that he was going to play a pivotal role into helping sid bring the pack back into the national spotlight. as far as cousins goes, sid should be credited just for putting the pack in a position to possibly land a player the caliber of cousins, and for that note favors and wall as well.for these kinds of players to even consider the pack, bodes well for sid and pack fans, cause eventually we will start landing some of these five star players.

When you find out Cousins went to Memphis on his own dime, are you going to retract your insinuations that Memphis paid for his visit?

Cousins has responded publicly for over a month that Memphis was the leader. He may have saisd other things elsewhere but Memphis writers and several national pubs have reported us as the leader according to Cousins

He has not taken the ACT so he could not take an official vist.

He and his family decided rather than wait they would spend $40 on gas and a hotel room. Sorry I don't know where he stayed.

While taking his unO, Cousins was overwhelmed with a sellout crowd, the overall atmosphere of the game, the love shown the seniors, the regency of the FedEx Forum, and in spite of all the crap some people throw at Memphis they saw the attraction of the city.

What he was promised from Cal: you will work harder than you have ever worked in your life or you will sit on the bench. You will have harder pratices than most teams see in their toughest games. You will win. You will have a chance to play for a National Championship.

Its the same thing he tells all his players. No money! No easy ride! No prima donna.

The only thing left for Memphis to do is sign John Wall. 1-2-3 in the class has a nice ring to it.

Don't you open yourself up to libel throwing out some of these thinly veiled accusations? Just curious.

Hey, what's the latest? Have we changed his mind yet to come to NC State? What with Wall coming here and all, I would think we would want Cousins too.
