Could Seth Curry Land at NC State?

**UPDATE: We have learned that there were no prior deals, or arrangements made between Curry and NC State. This means that if it was a done deal before he even transferred, then it's not NC State. However, we have confirmed that our staff has contacted the Currys .... we'll have more when we know more

**UPDATE: ESPN's Andy Katz Reporting Curry to Transfer to an ACC School in the State of NC. This Confirms Our Previous Report

If you have not heard, Seth Curry, the nation's leading freshman scorer (20ppg) has decided to transfer from Liberty University. Seth is the son of Hornets guard Dell Curry and brother of Davidson superstar Steph Curry. Curry was under-recruited out of high school much like his brother. He chose Liberty around the time his brother really began to emerge on the national scene. Now he's having second thoughts and has made news across the nation that he will be transferring to a bigger school, in a bigger conference.

Here are some quick hits about the situation:
- You can believe that just about every major program you can think of is inquiring about Seth in some degree

-We are hearing that NC State is one of those who has inquired

-The Curry's reside in the Charlotte area

-850 The Buzz, the sports talk radio station, has apparently reported that Seth wants to stay in NC and play in the ACC. (which narrows his choices down to NC State, UNC, Duke, or WF) This is Confirmed

-Sidney Lowe and Dell Curry played together on the Charlotte Hornets during the 1988-89 season and we've confirmed that they "know each other well"

While most of this is speculation and hearsay, I do think it is certainly something worth watching. We'll be doing our best to keep you on the forefront of any breaking news or turns in this story.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

Great article on Curry. It should be confirmed by someone soon because it is exactly 100% true and it would be a GREAT pickup to get this kid. I think he is NC State bound ! ALSO I just heard from a couple of different sources that JOHN WALL has verbally committed to N.C. State and it has not been announced yet ? Have you guys heard this? GREAT site I will be donating some at the end of the week.

    T Money,
Thanks for the support. I'm almost 100% positive that State has inquired about Curry, but I did not get that information from our usual source so I didn't want to just put it out there on the web unless I was sure.

About Wall committing. We have some pretty close sources with John and I feel like if this is the case then we would know. But you can also guess that the only ones who will know his final destination before he announces are his mother and the coach he commits to. So who knows, but no, I have not heard that.

Thanks for the support and the donation, we really appreciate it!

Okay, wow. All of this can't be true about both Wall and Curry. We now have the scholarships, but who get's the PT. I think if we can land Curry, we drop Wall's recruitment. Either way. I think Curry will decide where he wants to be before Wall does. We could lose out on both. But, should we land either....Wow. Look out.

Keep in mind Curry has to sit out a year. So him and Wall would not be playing together.

    March 25, 2009 at 3:03 PM

I think even if we land Curry we'll still go after Wall. Heck, just his name and the exposure he'll bring is a program changer and Sid knows that.

I'm not sold on the Wall commitment. I feel as if our sources on John are just as good as anyones and I haven't heard that.

**I do know Wall is close with Josh Davis and Davis has been working on him coming to State over the past few days.

Seth Curry would not count this year because he has to sit out 1 year if he transfers here so that has nothing to do with John Wall

    Wolfpack Hoops,

That is pretty much what my source is about as well the Josh Davis Connection to it all. They are really really really good friends and also his Mom wants him in the NC State red and white badly it is looking very good and when Wall signs his name to come here that will be solid for CJ coming as well in 2010. Great job with this site and updates man this is awesome !!! I am going to tell all of my friends about this site to get some donations flowing

Great point about Curry sitting for a year. I don't know why I didn't think of that before posting. Getting Curry would certainly shore up the point for the next four years, even without Wall. I sincerely hope that Sid can land a few of these guys that can help change the negativity that is coming from certain media outlets and a segment of the fan base. Go Pack!

The donation is greatly appreciated and the majority of all our donation will go right back into the site. would love to lanf curry

he could pay his way for 1 year and then we use an 2010 ship on him

wake sure seems like a good fit though

  12. Wolfpack Hoops said...
    March 25, 2009 at 7:14 PM

    SF59,
Most likely Curry isn't going to be paying for anything and will require a 'ship for the year he'll be sitting out.

Wake does seem like a good fit....next year. Remember though, he'll be sitting out until 2010 when Wake has 4 star commit JT Terrell coming in. Add that to the fact that Sidney and Dell Curry know each other very well and State begins to look like a more logical option.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking, or maybe not....we'll find out soon enough (and keep you posted when we do!)

    -Thx for the info guys!!

-I agree that Curry will probably not be paying his way anywhere. But if we run into a 2009 scholly crunch, it may be an option.

-I am so glad i stumbled on this site. You guys are providing good info with much needed optimism. I have you book marked on my faves.

    SF59,
Thanks so much for the kind words! I don't think Sid would even mention something like that to Dell. And I say that only because you've heard about how the Curry's reacted to Seth Greenberg's idea of allowing Stephen Curry to walk on and then give him a 'ship later. They said thanks but no thanks and felt snubbed by the VT coach. It's always a possibility but I'm going to say it's a very small one.

I'm glad you enjoy our site and any contribution is much appreciated! Thank You, it really helps us out as we've poured tons of time and quite a bit of money in getting this thing up and running.

    Thanks again!

I can't wait to see the style we play next year. This is maybe hyperbolic but I remember the old UCLA zone press and the pressure by teams like Mt St Mary's a few years back that would make Duke's grabbing and flopping seem boring.

Wall Wont announce his commetment until the jordan all star game. He wants his spot light as long as he can get it so I am positve there will not be a leak until he publicly signs. Even if he had decided to go to state and told the staff, Under no circumstances would lowe or any other coach leak it. Curry and Lowe had good ties in charlotte and on the bucks hopefully they can come to an agreement and seth likes the campus. GO PACK!!!

Billy Gillespie can't win consistently with Kentucky (a top 3 national program) in the lowly SEC. Kentucky should be to the SEC what Memphis is to the CUSA. If he can't produce in those circumstances, what in the blue hell would lead you to believe he could go head to head with the other triangle teams, much less the entire ACC? If he can't win in the SEC at Kentucky, with all their built in advantages, there is absolutely no way he could be successful at State IMO.

First off, great site. You're doing a great job so far!

As a lifelong Pack fan, I do not have my hopes up. Assuming the info that Curry will play for an ACC school in NC is true... why hasn't he announced if it was NCSU or Wake?

I don't think he would leave Liberty, make it known that he would play in NC and not have a decision made. Hope I'm very wrong about this.

  51. Wolfpack Hoops said...
    March 26, 2009 at 7:23 PM

^^ When Curry decided to transfer he either had a pre-arrangement with another school or he did not.

If he did, then it is illegal and considered tampering. If he did, your probably would never know, and if he did he probably would have already announced his decision.

If he did not, and I want to believe that this is the case since his dad, Dell, knows the ropes, I think that he's going about the process the right way. He wants to stay close, he wants to play in a big conference, and he's going to make a good, well thought out decision. He'll probably visit some campuses, sit down with some coaches, and see where he fits.

This is a big decision for Curry. The wrong situation and he ends up in Europe. The right situation and well...you see where it's gotten Stephen.

    1) Duke is one school Curry will look at, and if they offer I wouldn't doubt he'd take a very good look. That being said Duke does have a 5 star shooting guard Andre Dawkins coming in 2010. Oh, one more thing, Dell Curry and Jay Bilas (Duke grad and ESPN personality) run a charity together.

    http://www.athletesforyouth.org
    /partners_dell.html

2.) Lowe will be here next season. Any rumor you hear otherwise is absolutely false.

3.)Gilepsie hasn't been officially fired yet, but I think he will be. When he is fired I'm hearing Billy Donovan will get the first look. Coach Cal will surely be contacted if that falls through. It's way too early to be talking about this scenario right now.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

I am not sure who you guys source is for Sid being set in concrete that he will be back next year. I just heard 2 different very very reliable sources state that N.C. State will 100% indeed be talking to Sean Miller to see if he has any interest in coming back to N.C. State ! I would feel pretty good about going in that direction because I mean we lost out on Leslie, We lost out on Seth Curry, and Demarcus Cousins and John Wall so as long as we keep Larry Harris then the recruits we have will stay and bring in a good resume coach in Sean . What do you guys think? ALSO thanks for having a wonderful site, the best NC State site on the web and I am going to make a wealthy contribution to the donate link .

well the Vandenberg kid is out there and from what we're hearing he's pretty skilled and could step in and play some minutes right away.

State is also still feeling the same about Wall. They feel that they're in it and that John could really go either way.

After that, a name I might look at is Roscoe Davis. (although grades may be a factor) Now this is just speculation b/c I'm not really sure what Sid is planning if we miss on both Vandenberg and Wall, but believe me when I say Lowe has this ship under control.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

I think we need to all give credit where credit is due. Sidney Lowe has had a uphill battle with losing the recruits when he first got here and the fan base being very negative while he tries to rebuild and I think he has done a wonderful job ! His 4th year will be a big one and I really believe we will be ALOT better with better athletes, better defense, and players that play hard for 40 minutes.

I consider John Wall a NC State Wolfpacker until I hear anything other than that. I just feel in my heart he will listen to his mom when push comes to shove and will decide to put on the red and white which will be huge next year. So stop being so negative and saying you have sources that say he is going to kentucky or memphis or mars or jupiter and lets just wait and see.

When all is said and done this year Sidney Lowe will have a Top 15 class coming in and with Wall we would be Top 10 no question. Sidney Lowe has worked his ass off for us this year and has the best recruiting class coming in that we have had in a VERY LONG time. So stop the negativity because it is not needed because Sidney is ONE OF US and he is working his ass off to turn this program around. Turning your back on him after 3 short years with the first 1 losing his recruits would be like turning your back on your own family if someone robbed a bank or something, you would be upset confused dissapointed but ad the end of the day you forgive and forget and love that person. I LOVE SIDNEY LOWE, AND I LOVE NC STATE AND I LOVE THIS WEBSITE !!!!

Any news on if we have a shot at that kid Roscoe Davis ? Are we looking at him at all? He is very good

    Kris,
Thanks for the post and I agree. Also, don't mind the rumors from "Anonymous" sources. We know the truth on most of these cases and will do better to moderate that stuff.

We know Roscoe Davis is out there and has a high ceiling. From what I understand he has some grade issues he needs to clear up. We were on his list at one point, but I'm not sure of the situation right now. I'd just keep my eyes open.
