Ryan Harrow Dazzles at Showcase

Ryan Harrow flew up to Raleigh this morning to participate in the ScoutFocus Showcase held at Barton College. We got to spend our entire time there talking with Ryan, his Mom, his aunt, and his brother and we can't say enough about this kid and his family. This is no jab at other recruits, but Ryan Harrow is the most polite and genuine kid we've talked to and his family is no different.

All I can say is WOW. After coming from watching 8 hours of top tier high school athletes (@ the Carolina Challenge) I was unsure if anything could outdo what I had just seen. I found out very quickly that Ryan Harrow could. All you've been hearing about this kid is true. He stands at a legit 6'0, is a little slight of build, and really didn't stand out upon first glance. That was until the tip-off. I'm not sure how exactly to describe Ryan's game other than smooth and exciting. He doesn't just move, he glides. His ball handling is just silly. The kid had the ball on a string all day, shaking, crossing, and humiliating anyone who decided to guard him. He blew past nearly everyone that tried to stay in front of him, and if they were quick enough to defend his deadly first step, he hit you with a violent spin and finish. "Too thin, too small were the ways coaches described him," said his mother. He attended Georgia Tech's summer camp 3 years in a row, but Paul Hewitt failed to see what was right in front of him because of his small stature. Say what you want but there were some big boys out there today and the play was rough, but Ryan took every hit, every bump, every foul and still was able to finish at an astounding rate. His shot looked pure, his passes carved up the defense with ease, oh and by the end of the camp no one was attempting to stand in his way on the break, word was out that this kid could and will get up and throw it down. If you can't tell by now, I was blown away by his performance and you will be too, soon enough.

I know what you're thinking. Wolfpack Hoops is bias. Wolfpack Hoops is stretching the truth to make NC State look good. That simply is not the case here. Ryan Harrow is a serious, serious talent and Coach Lowe should be credited for seeing this first. You want proof? Check back in the next few days for a highlight reel that will have you verifying our every word.

**Ryan also let us know that he reads WolfpackHoops.com , so if you want to say anything to him or simply welcome him to the Pack, there is a very good chance he'll be reading it.

One thing no one can argue is that Sid has shown the ability to ID talent early. Harrow, CJ, Ryan Kelly etc. Now if CJ would come back home he and Ryan could be special together. I also think this ability to ID talent is encouraging in regards to Davis. I have actually seen Davis in person and think he is much better than his offer list suggest.

I hope Ryan knows what he means to NC State. From previous interviews, it sounds like he does. To bring in a kid of his character and talent...2010 just can't get here fast enough.

Ryan will soon be dazzling 19,722 red clad fans and the rest of Tobacco Road. Keep up the good work at Walton. I can see it now. With 7 seconds left in the ACC Championship game and the Wolfpack down 1, Ryan drives to the basket the defense collapses and he dishes out an amazing pass to Richard Howell who jams home 2 to take the lead with 2.1 seconds left. The opposition can only put up a desperation heave which harmlessly clanks off the backboard, giving NC State their first ACC Championship since 1987.

Completely off topic here but just wanted to let everyone know that Calapari has had a change of heart and is CONSIDERING the Kentucky head coaching position. That shows his heart is not at Memphis and his word can not be his bond like he is selling to his recruits. AM hearing Cousins would ask to be out of his commitment if John Calapari goes to Memphis then maybe he would come to NC State after all, I am hearing that is a possibility that is why Sidney Lowe is saving 2 scholorships while this plays out 1 for Cousins and 1 for John Wall!!!! this would be awesome are you goes at wolfpack hoops hearing anything at all???? can you dig some info on this.. Also Ryan Harrow you are my hero we love you already and you have not put on the nc state red and white yet. Thanks for believing in our program and thanks for comitting early and wanting to be with us. We will buy your jersey and scream your name we love you !!!!

Ryan - your arrival at NC State is the most anticipated event in my mind that Wolfpack fans have been starved for. You're the point guard that this team has looked for and been unsuccessful landing in the recent past (10years). If anything, I think we need to get you as much exposure as we can over the next calendar year. After all, great players love to play with other great players. Once word gets out about you, it will be much easier to land other big-time players to surround you with. Enjoy your remaining high school career and STAY healthy. I look forward to seeing you where the Red and White.

    Good times ahead.

Your NOT bias guys, your real and serious. People covering sports this days are mostly frauds and wannabe "fake it till you make it" types. An old cliche fits most sports pundits from Fox-ESPN down to local coverage and blogs like Hatefansnation. It's goes by the tune build em up just to tear them down.

This site has operators that are the kind of people you would want your children reading coverage of popular sports (kids use the internet, NO WAY!!). Nuff said.

But the real Man is Ryan Harrow. You look like you are having an incredible time playing Ball-keep having fun and enjoy the ride cause these a special times (though physically and mentally demanding). Keep it rollin' young man.

For you young and up-n'-coming players- don't fret that you are not as fast as Ryan or can handle the rock as superb as him- he's got it, next to none have or ever will. But pay close attention to how Ryan uses the ENTIRE backboard for many of his dazzling finishes. He has a nice tear drop finish now and then but when he's in traffic there is virtually no big man that can alter a shot that kisses of the glass around 12' to 12' 6" feet. Practice that and your scoring will go up dramatically.

    hey WPH,
Any chance your source has some info on Calapari to Kentucky? Pretty important stuff for this years class of recruits in my mind. I know its a long shot, but if theres anyone that can get the scoop, its you guys. Let us know what ole John Sleazapari is up too.(probably using Kentucky to try and up his 2.5 mil a yr paycheck at Memphis) Does that sound familiar to you guys?

If you remember back we ran a story about NC State feeling good about Cousins. That was a legit story and came from a legit source, the same source that has helped us break the Fergy , Costner, and Davis stories.

Right after we ran that story another source we have, not affilliated with NC State, emailed me and told me Cousins was playing us and was going to Memphis. I told him he has to be wrong b/c of what I had recently heard. He assured me he was not, but I was still skeptical.

Well, as it turns out, he was right all along and this very same source told us 2 days ago that Cal to Kentucky probably won't happen b/c Kentucky doesnt want him. He mentioned Billy D. , but he wasn't interested. So now ESPN is reporting Cal is interested in the Kentucky job. So I don't really know who to believe right now...our NC State sources have no clue what's going to happen in this situation...

    we'll keep you posted.

Cal to Kentucky will be a power play b/w AD, UK Admin and boosters. There are people at UK who were involved in the UMass investigation and want absolutely no part of Cal. While of course others see this as UK's best chance to get back in the national spotlight. Big question that remains unanswered can Cal coach in a big time competitive league? At UMass he only had Temple to deal with, CUSA no one to deal with and in the NBA Cal had his butt handed to him. If I were Kentucky I'd be going after Mike Anderson, but some how I don't think that will happen.

When Ryan gets here we will win big the right way. Actually I think we will win a lot next year. Harrow sounds like he's his own man, without handlers, and someone who means what he says. Still hoping for Wall too but we've got it going in the right direction.

Ryan, I've been saying this since the first time I saw a highlight video and then went and watched your game against Wheeler. Ryan Harrow is FOR REAL! Mr. Harrow has some SICK handles, some of the best court vision and basketball IQ that i've witnessed in years, the ability to get a pass in where very few people could get it. Harrow can drive and dish or finish at the hoop. Young man if you aren't ranked in the top 10 or 15 next year, it'll be a travesty. From everything I've read about Ryan he is a very geniune young man and is the very epitome of character.

I trust this young man when he says that NCSU fans have nothing to worry about because he isn't going anywhere. Wolfpack fans have had years and years of disappointments, failures, close calls and heartaches. We are very loyal to those who lay everything they have on the floor for everyone to see and Ryan Harrow does that every night. IMHO Ryan Harrow will be THE best recruit that Sidney has TARGETED so far. Ryan Harrow has the capability to become All-ACC and quite possibly an all-american. I haven't been this excited about an incoming recruit.... ever.

Ryan Harrow, you will be the face of North Carolina State basketball. You will become a legend and you will be revered by this fan base because of it. Last but not least Ryan... Thank you. From all Wolfpack fans everywhere... Thank you!!!

    GO WOLFPACK!!!

If my math is correct, they currently have 3 ships open and 3 or 4 people signed.

Not sure what they're going to do w/ Wall, Cousins, Henry...IF in fact Calipari does go to Kentucky.

My guess is, if they need to make room, they'll make room

  40. Anonymous said...
    March 30, 2009 at 4:29 PM

sCal is going to have to do some cutting, releasing or something if he wants to bring Henry, Wall and Cousins.

  41. Anonymous said...
    March 30, 2009 at 5:37 PM

UK has 18 ships tied up.
    11 returning players
    4 commited UK
    Nolan Dennis
    Sallie+Witherspoon transfer

They would have to loose atleast 3 current UK players to make room + all the guys with signed LOI to UK like Hood and Orton (top 40 guys)...gonna be a damn mess.

    Wolfpack Hoops,

I have been following the situation all day long and let me tell you what I am hearing from a very *realiable* source.

    1. John Calapari is GONE to Kentucky.
    2. DeMarcus will NOT follow him to Kentucky because there is no room with recruiting commitments that were already made to Kentucky.

    3. DeMarcus Cousins will be going to N.C. State (in discussions now with Sid)
    4. John Wall is going to Duke and it is 95% done he had a GREAT visit and Coach K offered on the spot and he took the bait.

That is what I am hearing how everything will shake out people. So I guess that aint bad we lose Wall but get Cousins ? what do u guys think

  43. GreenEngineer said...
    March 30, 2009 at 8:19 PM

Reed.... I hope you're right about Cousins. But I'll wait for confirmation before getting my hopes up. Life as a Wolfpack fan has taught me to temper my expectations and not let my emotions get the best of me. But, I'd take Cousins over Wall.

  44. Anonymous said...
    March 30, 2009 at 9:48 PM

I'll take either and be happy with it; however, Wall > Cousins.

  45. KarNCSU said...

As of right now, Wall is not a done deal for Duke. Duke def helped their chances, especially with the whole Memphis thing going on. People around Duke and others are just hyping up John Wall on the Duke kool aid.

Cousins is not currently talking to Sid in that manner. Cousins is busy with all thats going on this week for him (Mcdonalds)
