Sharing the Wealth: Up...up...and away

Are you starting to get overwhelmed trying to keep up with all the awards our recruits are reeling in? Yeah, we are too, and we're about to inform you about another. Scott Wood has just been awarded the "Chronicle-Tribune 08-09 Boys Player of the Year." Scott was an impressive prospect based on skills alone, but reading the quotes below you can see he isn't laying back and relying on his talent. Check out what Scott had to say about what has helped him become the player he is today.

“This year, I personally tried to become more of a team leader and have that shot at Mr. Basketball,” Wood said. “The team goal was to get back to state, which we didn’t accomplish. But overall, we won the NCC outright and that was big.”

If you've been paying attention you've been seeing this kind of quote quite a bit out of the players Sidney Lowe is recruiting. Leadership is a quality that is almost unteachable, and something that coaches try to recruit. Coach Lowe is making a serious point that his kids possess a mental toughness and leadership quality that this past year's team lacked.

And for those of you who are worried about Scott's skinny frame, check out what he has to say about being physically ready to compete in the ACC.

“My strength, I’m scrawny,” Wood said when asked what he needs to work on. “I think my toughness can make up for some of it, but I know I will be eating a lot of steak and protein shakes.”

Read the article from The Chronicle-Tribune, stocked full of good quotes from Scott and his coach.

I really like Scott's quotes. He seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders. And he's not bad at shooting either!
