VIDEO: LUKE COTHRON : 2009 Boo Williams Nike Invitational Vol. 1

We are loving life up here at the Boo Williams Nike Invitational Tournament in Hampton, Va. Tonight we got the chance to grab some film of 2010 NC State recruit (The Pack offered Cothron after the Maryland game this past season) Luke Cothron. Luke is playing for Boo Williams on an absolutely stacked squad. Luke is playing along side UNC commit Kendall Marshall (2010, 5-Stars), Duke commit Andre Dawkins (2010, 5-Stars), and highly touted James McAdoo (Honestly one of the best sophomores I have ever seen). Boo Williams beat the Georgia Stars in their first game of the tourney and Luke dropped an even double-double of 13 and 13. We'll have plenty of video and commentary coming after tomorrow's eventful day. We will be watching Luke a couple more times and we will also be filming Rodney Hood, Deuce Bello, Bishop Daniels, and C.J. Leslie along with many others. (In case you've been hearing all the Mychal Parker talk, we sat with Joe Davis of ScoutsFocus who said Parker may be driving up to join a team today...if that's the case, we'll be there!) Stay tuned!

Oh and our videos are now working in HD...check it out! (hit the HQ button on the Video bar)

that was a great first glimpse of Luke and by the looks of it he has got the attention of Lowe for good reason.

game looks very smooth- clips revealed a big man version of Zo in the way he had a great feel for the game and the action so that he looked a half second ahead of everyone.

have a great time up in Va and will be looking forward to more vid of Luke.

Seen Cothron play a few times and I was really impressed. Especially when he put 40 some points on W.O.G. last year. We desperately need a big in 2010 and Luke would be the perfect fit. He's going to be a monster.

Please Luke Cothron...COME TO NC STATE!!! WE WANT YOU!!

It is hard to see a lot from this, but he looks like a really smooth, smart player, with some good athleticism. I am really glad we are involved.

    Jose,
Thanks, it's crazy crowded here in Hampton and the new Boo Williams Complex is SICK! Wayyy better than we expected.

    Anonymous,
It was requested we move to YouTube and get our HD on and if you guys want it, we'll do our best to provide it!

    Ppack3,
No problem...stay by your computer, there's more to come. In between games one of us is always editing, so basically you're seeing these videos not too long after live action stops.

boo complex is extremely nice and laid out well, only thing i see that they could do different is maybe they could make it a lil easier for the players and fans to see the scoreboards. i watched luke play in the 9pm game and i didnt see anything about his game that really jumped out at me,he rebounded ok,but he's a big guy.he seemed a bit lazy'kinda like costner.its the only time ive ever seen him play,so he was probably tired and maybe it affected his game. i had a good time up there, just wish id gotten there in time to see cj play, but i believe his squad went 0 for 3

    ^ Ashley,
Good to see you made it up there! From watching Cothron, and we'll be putting up more video shortly, you see that he's not an extremely explosive, high flying athlete. However, he is very effective and was vital to his teams success. His rebounding and his touch around the rim was very good. He's got another year to get used to his size and banging with top notch guys, and I think he'll be one of the better big men in the nation.

His list of offers ranges from Florida State, and V.Tech, to Florida, Uconn, and Kansas, and obviously NC State. Also, the fact that Boo Williams invited AND started Luke on his own team is a compliment in itself.

He's a smart, very talented player that doesn't come with all the ego and the baggage that most others do. We spoke with Luke for a while and he was just a very polite and well mannered kid. We'd be extremely lucky to land Luke.

Ashley, did you watch any other games? Who impressed you the most?

I've seen Costner play in person but not Cothron. There are plenty of guys who play with the energy and athleticism equivalent to Costners' and I've never confused any of them with the action of laziness.

Concentration and the discipline of knowing the strengths of your individual game are frequently mistaken as being lazy or "aloof". Your out of sync with your team mates and you either look dazed and confused or like a chix with your head cut off. Neither are going to win you many comments from the spectators.

It all comes down to production and what you bring to the team goals; basic arithmetic meets psychology- had Costner consistently produced (and he had chances a' plenty) then no one would have mentioned the casual way he moved about on the court, IMO.

Luke looks different in that he knows how to stick his nose with battle under the boards and that also his glide and skill with the ball looks like a big asset on the fast breaks.

wph, i watched team all ohio play, and i was really impressed,#25 on their team could really hit the boards hard and threw down some nice dunks. team takeover played team florida and both of those squads were unbelievable that game was won on a last second shot by team takeover. i really enjoyed watching the battle between the 2 pt guards,i believe they both wore the #1 jerseys for their teams which were the boo williams all stars and the soldiers. jose,i dont want to be misunderstood on luke cothron. you can definately tell this kids got talent, but i didnt see him handle the ball well at all, i saw him twice put the ball on the floor and try to post up and on each occasion he turned it over,on another occasion he tried to help bring it up the court in the second half and lost control trying to drive the lane. this kid very well be one of the better big men in the country in another yr,but this particular night i saw all lot better play out of some of the other big men, especially the two on team all ohio.#25 and #21 hey wph,who did bishop daniels play for?

    I hear you Ashley-

No doubt most of these players haven't hit a gathering this deep in talented players so certain skills they are used to getting by on just isn't going to work the same.

Hope the trip was awesome and that you got to see some soon to be Wolfpack Hooopsters.

jose the only thing that could've made my hour drive up there any better would've been if ryan had of played. i didn't see any pt guard that could play on his level, and believe me i was looking. i dont want to beat a dead horse but that kid is going to be special, and he seems to have some very strong family support.does anyone know what kind of a student he is,gpa? im sure theres been some mention of it on here and i just missed it. on another note the guy that started the facebook page trying to woo john wall to the pack is from my hometown(e-city),they had a real big write up about it in the local newspaper saturday(daily advance.com),good article to check out.
