5 STAR TREATMENT: Pack Commit Ryan Harrow Jumps in the Rankings

Hear ye, hear ye, we are here to announce the news you have all been waiting for. Rivals.com has finished their spring analysis and NC State commit Ryan Harrow has made a magnificent jump to being ranked the 25th best player in the nation and the #6 Point Guard, and with that he has earned the fifth star. Many pack fans who have witnessed this kid in action have felt he certainly was one of the top players in the nation, and now so do the scouts at Rivals.com. We are very excited for Ryan who has been working feverishly every weekend to impress other players watching, in hopes that they'd want to follow him to NC State. We're not sure how easy it will be to persuade some of these mega-recruits, but we'll say this, there isn't a better credential to have than that 5th star.

Congrats Ryan and keep up the good work!

    Another note....
C.J. Leslie dropped down to a 4-star and the number 45 player in the class. I think Sid and Co. know exactly what they are doing.

    ED-

I was thinking the exact same thing!! CJ Leslie dropped down and it suprised me considering NC ranks him as the top player in the state, but Cothron is a top 15 player in these rankings... maybe rivals and sid knows what they are doing, thats why sid is working on Cothron SOOO HARD!!! JOIN THE GROUP!! ANOTHER TOP 20 CLASS NEXT YEAR!!!

Leslie dropped because his subpar performance in relation to his potential. Remember, Leslie's potential is through the roof but until he taps it consistently, Rivals will keep his ranking where he is at.

Harrow has consistently performed and Rivals awarded him with 5th star for that. Let's hope the day finishes with some good news from the Painter side. :D

Didn't think Harrow would become a 5 star so soon. WOW!!! Props to Harrow if he reads this. Also I know u got that drive in you and so I can only hope that you keep working hard and move your way to #1 in the rankings. Also keep showin off your wolfpack gear and get some other guys to join you at state! Congrats once again, well deserved honor and props to Sid for seeing the potential in him before anyone else

Congrats Ryan! Thats great to hear, but we knew you were a 5 star all along.

BTW guys, WPH just posted on the Painter thread that MP has people close to him in our corner. Is this all starting to come together!?

WPH, is Painter an '09 commit. I know that you have probably answered this more than you would like. But, is he going to play next year?

Also, WPH's, great insight on the process. It would be a great day in Wolfpack Basketball with a Painter commitment!

Brown, Wood, Howell, Painter, Vandenberg, and Davis. Awesome.

I guess you could put those guys on the court and throw the ball out there against a lot of teams. Throw Ryan Harrow on this team, not to mention Cothron and Leslie....Holy Cow!!!!!!!!! This could get real crazy, really quick!
    Go State!

    ^ Ppack,
Good to have you back, we were wondering where you were on Pigskin yesterday! haha yeah I'm hearing that he's telling all of these coaches that he's good to go for '09. So I guess we'll have to wait and see. I was told his exams were sometime this week but I can't confirm that.

    Congrats, Ryan

Also, congrats to Ryan's family. I know they visit here from time to time. Now, continue to help us on the recruiting trail and we will be winning some championships VERY soon.

Keep working hard and good things will come.

WPH, Thanks for the hospitality! You won't normally hear much from me on Tuesdays for work related reasons. I have been trolling both sites today and am very excited about all of these off-season developments. The BB roster could look absolutely silly in 2010! It feels a little funny to be this excited about BB at this point, but it is so justified.
I am still trying to get some folks over to Pigskin. It looks like it has picked up a little, but not nearly enough. Thanks again, for all that you do.
Question: What forum might someone like Painter use to get the word out about his commitment?

Coach Lowe is beginning to scare me. He seems to have an uncanny knack of evaluating talent. If he keeps this up, the Pack may be competitive sooner than anyone thought. Lowe really lacks that game-controlling, play-creating point guard, which is all that is stopping his system. Last year, the Pack got what they wanted more times than not
    but couldn't finish.
If you put some ball handlers on the court running a drive-and-dish, inside-out system where intelligent players recognize the defense that's being played against them, Lowe's system starts looking scary for opponents.

Lowe must be aiming at having at least two deep at every position, and he's patient enough not to build his team around one superstar like several ACC teams have done recently. He wants a deep team, so he must be planning on running a high-possession, quick-scoring gameplan.

Recruits, as a UNC fan, all I can say is the Big 10 is awesome. Better give them a long, hard look. And the SEC has some powerhouses.

Seriously, though, the UNC roster is pretty much set, so I am looking at how Lowe is building a team from scratch, just to see what his approach is. This guy is being severely underestimated. He has looked at the ACC, and winning programs, and seen what it takes, then recruited the players to build a system. He has a plan, and is patient. We're watching someone build a system for the long-term. I'm getting very interested in watching how Coach Lowe does over the next couple of years.

I don't mean to get ahead of myself, nor do I want to jinx anything. BUT... if things go our way on just a couple of the recruits mentioned in these posts (Cothron, Painter, WALL!) we could be a team that even Carolina will not look forward to playing. Just saying, we have some really good kids coming in. Just a couple more now, come on lady luck. Smile on us! :)

    GO PACK!!!

TheUNCFan - I like the comments. But, I have to say, Lowe didn't have to look far to learn how to evaluate talent, or to find out what it takes to build a program. He was part of Morgan Wooten's program. He won a National Championship under Valvano. He knows what to look for in a point guard. Larry Harris know what to look for in the 6'6"+ guys. His teams will mirror this year's UNC team before it is all said and done, with the exception of the fact that the half court will be more of an 'inside-out' mentality. And, Lowe's offense showed flashes of being scary this year. If the BOT at NCSU can be as patient as Sidney, I think dividends will be paid in the way of Championships and an overall competitiveness with the powers of the conference (ie. UNC and Duke). Go Pack! And thanks for stopping buy. Stay tuned.

    TruthBKnown Returns,

From what I'm hearing on Wall, we're on the outside looking in. Unless he's going for a "complete surprise" and by that I mean a surprise for our fans AND our staff, he's most likely headed elsewhere.

Man... I just have this really odd feeling that Wall is going to stay more than one year and that feeling keeps telling me that Ryan Harrow and John Wall are going to end up facing each other in a game some day. I don't know why, but I have this feeling that Wall and Harrow are going to end up having an all out battle in the near future. It just seems like these things have a way of working out in a surprising way (A way no one expects!).

I am not a recruiting expert so I have always questioned the praise fans give to coaches for spotting talent early on. However, after looking at the offers reported by Rivals.com (Harrow was only offered by us, Chattanooga, and Auburn), it is clear that Sidney beat every big time program to the punch.

I don't know if anyone knows me on this site, but I once often frequented another NC State blog where they consider anyone who comments in a halfway positive manner about NC State BB and/or Sidney Lowe, as "idiot board" material.

It's good to be on a site where very positive accomplishments are seen as just that, "very positive accomplishments", and where people don't think they have counter every positive step in the right direction with gloom and doom opinions that are based on their own negative outlook of the universe.

Also wanted to say NICE POST! to the "TheUNCfan".

Anyone who has been around for awhile and who loves the game of BB, knows that a healthy NC State BB program adds an entire different dynamic while the ACC a much more exciting conference for everyone.

It's been too long, NC STATE deserves to be back up there where it is, and always was, SUPPOSED TO BE!!!

What a day! Ryan gets the recognition he deserves, and Deshawn commits! We've got a star on the horizon to run the point, and are front-court is now stacked. Things are looking good!

"From what I'm hearing on Wall, we're on the outside looking in. Unless he's going for a "complete surprise" and by that I mean a surprise for our fans AND our staff, he's most likely headed elsewhere."

I was hoping for a quick commitment from Painter. Hopefully Wall will see that what we really need is a star PG, and we can be great THIS YEAR, not just in the coming years.

We got the Painter commitment. I'm not holding my breath on Wall by any means. But I'd still love to see him get in while the gettin's good!

I haven't felt this juiced for NC State basketball in YEARS, and possibly DECADES. That's the honest truth.

    GO PACK!!!

P.S. Someone mentioned those other boards where they talk about boards like THIS one as "idiot boards". I've posted there, too. Those people think they know so much. They're like intellectual elites I think. All they are is a bunch of negative people trying to sound important. I'm not 100% happy with Sidney, but goodness, you have to give someone credit when it is due. This recruiting class deserves so much more credit than they get on those other boards.
