Support the V Foundation....

When: May 9th, 2009 (9pm)
Where: The Alley (formally Western Lanes on Hillsborough St. in Raleigh)
What: Bowling for Cancer Reaserch, put on by Brahsome.com (a blog run by NC State Alumni)

The basketball program at NC State has lost two legendary coaches to cancer in the past 30 years, which is why when it's time to give, Wolfpack fans are always the first to open up their wallets in the name of cancer research. The V Foundation for Cancer Research was started in 1993 to honor Jim Valvano. From very humble beginnings of Jim's personal friends and family, The Foundation grew. Today, that circle of friends has expanded and the support structure of The Foundation includes people of all walks of life, those who knew Jim personally, those who knew of Jim and many who have joined the cause simply because they believe in the possibility of Jim's final wish - to fund research to find cures for cancer. The V Foundation takes great pride in its fiscal responsibility and is proud to announce that it gives 100 percent of all new direct cash donations to cancer research and related programs.

Enter Brahsome.com, a blog with a unique take on southern sports and entertainment, written and run by NC State Alumni. They have decided to put on "Mardi Brah" to help raise fund the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Here is what how they describe the event:
Come get nice with the Brahs and fight cancer while your at it. Mardi Brah 2009 is scheduled for next Saturday, May 9th, at The Alley, formerly known as Western Lanes. It should be a great evening, with festivities beginning around 9:00 p.m. We are giving away a host of prizes and all proceeds are going to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Topping the prize list is two tickets to sold out Phish in Asheville, NC. We are also giving away a Nintendo DS system, a Tim Clark signed Masters hat, Brahsome merchandise and gift cards to several local establishments, including: Mellow Mushroom, The Point, Jibarra, Crowley’s Old Time Favorites and Cloos Coney Island. Visit Mardibrah.com for more details.

Sounds great- An event celebrating V, Coach Yow and their courageous fight that we all should join. Pretty cool to get together and bowl since everyone loves getting crazy and bowl'n some frames.

I probably won't be able to go since our family is expecting the arrival of the latest member around that time.

Word of advice- if you get the Phish tix think twice before you hawk them right away- I've seen this band 4 X from venues as small as a bar on up to 100,000 + and hearing them live is unlike any other performance out there. (just ignore the smelly hippies and white guys in dreads- they won't bite)
