Cothron and Harrow Teaming Up in Vegas and Phoenix

2010 NC State Recruit, Luke Cothron, informed us two days ago that he was currently without a team for the Vegas tournament. The Super 64 Tournament is an Adidas event and Luke's Boo Williams AAU team is Nike sponsored. If you've been keeping up with our AAU summer coverage then you're already beginning to realize just how common it is for a player to join another team for any certain tournament.

Luke let us know that he has finally found his team for the Super 64 in Vegas. Luke will be running along side 2010 Wolfpack commit, and fellow 5 star recruit, Ryan Harrow and his Atalanta Celtics.

Cothron is the only other 2010 player, aside from CJ Leslie, that we can confirm as having an official offer from the staff. This means that the fact that he has chosen to run with Harrow and the Celtics can only help the Wolfpack's chances of landing big Luke. Ryan Harrow has quite the reputation for letting other players know why they too should choose NC State, and he's been in Luke Cothron's ear all summer long.

Luke also let us know that know that he will be joining the Celtics in Pheonix for another tournament in the near future. These two tournaments will both be perfect opprotunities for the Wolfpack staff to further evaluate Luke and get to see the 1-2 punch he and Harrow can produce while on the floor together. Something Pack fans certainly hope to see in 2010.

Feel free to not answer, but is there any indication that Harrow had some hand in getting Cothron to run with the Celtics?

"I'm starting to think my PP premium isn't worth it when you constantly provide better and more fequent information."

So they're going to partner up for a tournament. Big deal. Is that really that great bit of info? It's definitely a WPH exclusive, but I'm beginning to realize how little this story means in the grand scheme of things.

Very good news, Harrow may turn out to be our best recruiter.

You've had very little to add to this site. If you do not like the FREE reading that WPH provides you are welcome to go somewhere else. I think the rest of us do appreciate these articles and like to hear that our prized poing guard, Ryan Harrow, will be teaming up with one of our biggest recruiting targets on the AAU circuit. Especially when you consider all we've read about Ryan and his recruiting prowess.

There is a downside, I've heard the recruits are complaining about the constant texts and phone calls, which doesn't reflect well on NC State. They don't like being bothered every few days on mundane stuff. Might get to the point where they shut it down. I know some already have. These guys are new and aren't journalists, but they'll learn quickly that athletes don't like to be bothered that much. Maybe once a month or every three weeks, and that's considered a lot.

I have wondered about that. It could be benefiicial that they know that we're excited about the prospect of them playing at NC State, but too much may become annoying. Gotta strike that happy medium.

I've heard from numerous players that enjoy being in contact with the site and the publicity that they receive here. Some of ones I have spoken with say their out of town family members like being able to visit the site and keep up with how they are doing.

How often do these recruits get texts and phone calls from WPH? How often do they get texts and phone calls from other sites about other schools? Oh!... you don't know! So you don't know how often WPH is in touch with recruits. Oh!... I see! But you've "heard" that recruits get tired of this. What? Did you text one of them to find this out? Or are you just speculating? All a recruit has to do is delete a text if they don't want to be bothered. I've "heard" that lot's of them know how to use the delete button!

I love these "nuggets" and you have replaced PP as my go to source. I have an extra $100 a year getting ready to free up by dropping my subscription over there. Good job WPH and thanks for keeping it positive.

To all the anonymous wet blankets,

I can appreciate your opinion, but it would help if you signed a name so we knew who to ignore.

"I know some already have." Get real. If you were tight with these recruits, you wouldn't need to come to this site and post your drivel.

Actually we make a point to really give recruits their space. Luke actually called me to tell me about switching teams. And Ryan texts us to give game updates. Exposue and attention is a positive thing for these players as long as it's done in the right way with the right intentions. We respect their privacy and ask permission before we run most of our articles but we are not calling and texting these kids like crazy and I think it's that respect of their personal life and privacy that makes them feel comfortable enough to text or call us . We understand that they are people and not commodities.

Thanks for the retort, WPH's. Posts like the one above don't make sense to me, either. Have your opinion, sure. But, it's the attitude that makes me wonder if this person is from PP and sick of the people (here) who are jumping ship, or if they are even a Pack fan at all. IMO, the former is worse. If you don't appreciate the story, why come to the comments section anyway? It's free, and you are complaining about it? Whatever.
For one, I am excited about the prospect of these two guys getting some time to gel. It gives Luke a chance to see what life on the court would be like with Ryan feeding him the rock. And, Ryan can talk to him about coming in with Lo Brown (Ryan's God Brother) in the same class. That would be two five-star guys and a four-star guy by my count. That's not including this year's class and any other schollies that may come available by next year. This team may not blow the doors off of the gym this year, but they have the potential to really do some special things in the next few years if the recruits continue to choose the Pack! Go State!

I think the players see how its not just "the hot new thing" that WPH focuses on but everyone from the NC State Basketball family. It seems like a legitimate continuation of how Lowe is trying to get the past involved. I love the stories about Cam's design business, Collins and Grundy tearing it up in Europe, Gainey and Inge making the move to coaching, etc. The interviews just seem to have more information than you usually see.

Ahhh.. and on to Luke playing with the Celtics!?

When Ryan teamed up with Luke at Pangos it was only for one game late in the tourney and the whole set up there seemed every man for himself. It will be very interesting to see if a good combination happens here when they can string some games along.

Hopefully Luke gets this Celtics squad over the top since they've been tourney semi-finalist all summer long. I've only watched one game of theirs and they certainly have a ton of talent besides Ryan, but they seemed to be missing a big man who was really comfortable playing with his back to the basket. The other bigs were either muscle and put back types or the very popular "I'm going to be like another wing on my team" big.

Anyway, back to the journalism ethics symposium...(haha, some folks just don't get it)

Ryan doesn't have recruiting prowess. Who has he persuaded to come here? All this "oh but he's in so-and-so's ear!" is getting old. If Cothron comes here it's because Sid got in his ear, not Ryan.
