Open Thread: 8/23/09

Sorry we're a little late today with the open thread. As you can see, we're making it a weekly occurrence to have at least one open thread a week. We'll try to keep it on Sundays, since Sundays are usually the slowest, news wise.

Here are a few things we've been discussing, and now we want to get your take.

-Should NC State kick off the basketball season with a Midnight Madness? Would it be popular enough to draw a big crowd? Should it be held at Reynolds or the RBC? Should the Pack just stick with the Red/White game?

-Is there any, living, former NC State players that you'd like us to cover in our "Where are They Now?" ...We are now taking suggestions.

Feel free to let your questions, comments or concerns be heard. Have at it!

I would like to know what happened with the Quincy Miller visit. And also 2 months ago we were looking for room in our 2010 class and now it seems like we have nothing what's the deal seems like kentucky is going to need 2 teams to accompany all the players that want to go there. What's the deal with a kid by the name of Dwight Powell he's ranked very high and has a long build could be a force around the basket? I still like luke and leslie and even though it's still early it just dosen't look good.

Julius Hodge. If you could get an interview and ask him what he thinks of the state of our basketball program, what if anything he knows about Lowe, and how he's doing in general, that would be awesome. My fav NC State player of all time.

Id love to see an interview with Lorenzo Brown. Im very curious to see what he has to say about the situation and what his plans are until next season.

WPH shouldnt have a problem given the great rapport with the Harrow family...

Midnight Madness would be amazing at Reynolds Coliseum. From a student's perspective, it would be a huge hit and would ignite the fan base to get excited for the season

How about doing an entry on "the guys that played with Fire and Ice". Contact some of their teammates and get some "what I remember most" stories.

On Midnight Madness, sounds like fun, but I'm in bed by 10 every night.

    Chris Corch interview.

In particular ant insights on what he had thought of Javi Gonzalez the prep player then- how is handled the pressure and whether one of the greatest ACC PG's of all time thinks Gonzo can turn into a late bloomer.

An interview with CJ Williams. Aks him can we expect to see some high scoring games like he did in the pro-am league. Get him to give his insight on the 5 incoming freshmen's game. CJ represents NC State in a positive manner on and off the court. I'm looking forward to watching CJ take his game " To a whole nother level".

We have already caught up with Evtimov, and CJ Williams...we will catch up with them both again in the future.

Julius Hodge is one guy that we havent been able to track down. No one in the NC State office has his new contact info , nor do any former players we've talked to.

We know Corch pretty well and will bring you an interview from him at some point in the future.

We'll have a Tracy Smith interview a little closer to the season as well as one with Javi.

Lorenzo Brown does not like to deal with the media much but we'll work on getting an interview with him sometime during the season if we can.

I love being able to attend the Red & White game while I'm in Raleigh for football. It just adds so much to the atmosphere, AND it makes it possible for parents to take their kids to a "free basketball game." That's how fans get started. So as much as I understand why the students would like to have their own Red & White game, as an out-of-towner, I vote for a Saturday game at the RBC Center.

I am in favor of a "midnight" game, even if its on a Saturday or at like 9 pm on a weekday. I have been to UNC's and also to Appalachians and both of them are way more fun that what we have, which is basically a glorified practice. Those other two schools events allow the athletes to have some fun and show their personalities which is something that I would really like to see.

Could we have a Midnight Madness geared toward the fan (with a typical practice warm upand then contests - 3 point, free throw, horse, around the world) and the following week or 2 continue to have a Red/White game before a home football game?

I know it's the wrong site, but football season kicks off in 9+ days!!!
