2011 Guard Dezmine Wells Commits to Xavier

We just wanted to let everyone know that 2011 combo guard, Dezmine Wells, has given his verbal commitment to Xavier. Dez was on the Pack's radar for 2011, but Xavier was one of his first offers and made him a top priority.

Wells is a 6'3", 210lbs combo guard from Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh. He is a strong and physical player, however, it is hard to tell which position he'll play at the next level. Last season he played on the block for 'Word of God Academy,' but has lately been transitioning over to the guard position. Overall, we still think Dezmine is a quality player and will have nice career at Xavier.

The Pack is still heavily tracking Rodney Hood and Laquinton Ross for 2011, but it is still very early, so expect new names to keep popping up.

    Good luck to him!

Just looking looking at the vids i'd seen, it was hard to get a gauge on his game. It was all dunks. But very impressive, authoritative dunks. He appears real athletic and can jump!

Good for Dezmine Wells and Xavier. Like Ryan Harrow, if one schools seems to definitely be a good fit, you should go ahead and commit there. We've seen what the verbal from Ryan has done to excite many of us. I hope Dez has a good career up there in Cincy.

    Good luck Dezmine!!!

Had the pleasure of meeting him hes a very well spoken young man.

I dont feel too down about this because to me hes a tweener that doesnt have a set position w/ him relying on the dunk more than anything else and that will be taken away at the next level. He would start over harrow, Lorenzo, Wood so to me he wouldnt have fit in w/ our players.

Keep pushing for Rodney Hood and Laquinton Ross!!!!

    Correction above

** He WOULDNT have started over Ryan, Lorenzo, or Wood....

I'm guessing the staff wanted to see him develop more before making him a committable offer.

He's still got 2 years of basketball to play and I think he'll have a good college career, but IMO this was a good read by the staff. It's too early to be handing out 'ships before you know what you have for sure in 2010.

When we posted the information on Leslie we had confirmation from a source that Leslie wasn't there. So that was news "just in."

We are trying our best to "be there every step of the way." Just because information hasn't been posted doesn't mean we aren't trying hard to track down specific facts.

Give it a rest anonymices! Part of the beauty of Wolfpackhoops is that the information seems (in a lot of cases) to be developing news and comes at you almost as it happens. Would you rather they say nothing at all? Plus, it's their choice to post it as they please. Step back from your computer, go for a walk, let the juices simmer a little and chill. Your comment(s) only reminds of those who can't bear to wait on a thing; kind of like that individual who microwaves their Pop Tart because God forbid they should have to wait the two minutes it takes in the toaster.

Rock on Wolfpackhoops-I love what you guys put out.

Ok, we have a little CJ Leslie update for everyone. There is stuff that we can confirm and there is stuff that we cannot confirm. We'll tell you what we can confirm.

Everybody knows by now that CJ did not make it to Kentucky's 'Big Blue Madness.' Well, we can now also confirm that CJ did not make it to Kentucky at all this past weekend. We are working on confirming where he actually was, and why he never made his official visit to Kentucky. Like we said, we'll do out best to keep you updated every step of the way. Stay tuned.

As far as we know there is nothing like this in the works right now. Ryan will have his day to be recognized by the Pack fans and when the others decided to sign (Luke, Zo) they will too.

Ryan has been working on CJ, there's no secret there, but all involved believe this is going to be long, drawn out recruitment.

The fact that CJ never made it out to Kentucky this past weekend is very interesting though.

    ^ Hmmmmmmm

Things are definitely getting very interesting around here. The one positive that I see is that people "in the know" have always said that CJ Leslie's actions speak louder than words. His "actions" lately have been pointing in a very positive direction for NC State. Can't wait to see how this plays out.

WPH - Keep us posted with what's going on. You guys do a great job.

Great info on CJL! We probably shouldn't get our hopes up, but it's nice to know that we're still in the running. And his actions do seem like a good sign.

And it seems funny that no one is even saying much about Dezmine Wells choosing another "suitor" over us... I know I'm not very bothered by that. I feel like Sidney is ALMOST getting to the point where he can pick and choose the players he wants, and get them. And Dez is a 2011 recruit. That's a long way away. He could always de-commit down the road, like CJL did. Who would blame him if he chose NC State over Xavier, if we're making noise like I think we will in the next couple of years.

I think we're fine, and I'm almost drooling at the thought of CJL coming back to State after de-committing. That would say a lot!

I remember Carolina fans giving us a hard time for losing CJL. What poetic justice it would be if he came back to us in the end?

It is really, REALLY hard not getting your hopes up SKY HIGH in this situation. Just have to keep hoping that maybe, just maybe, a little "sunshine" is finally going to beam down on NC STATE UNIVERSITY!!!

Not that it hasn't been already with the great kids coming in, but hell, who is ever happy with the weather for more than a day or two at a time anyway?

Stay on track, keep grinding and chugging along Sidney, just like that "Little Train that Could."

"I think we can, I think we can,..."

Saw this link posted on another NC State blog... very interesting!

    Kentucky Blog

I have no idea what's in the mind of a top high school recruit like CJL. I can't pretend I do. And maybe I'm the eternal optimist. But I tend to think that if CJL knew he was GOING to commit to Kentucky, he most likely WOULD have done it at their Big Blue Madness event. I mean, why would he wait? Unless he stayed home due to some unavoidable family situation or something, this HAS to be a positive for State's chances with him.

If we had a lousy incoming class in 2010, I wouldn't say this. I would think something else must have prevented him from attending. And that is still possible, of course. But the fact that we have three GREAT commitments already, and the 4th-ranked recruiting class (at the moment), I can't help but wonder if CJ is thinking he might like to get back on board.
