Lorenzo Brown Recommits to NC State

Lorenzo Brown originally committed to NC State back in July of 2008. NC State's 2009 recruiting class was ranked as the 11th best one in the nation, with Lorenzo Brown as the gem of the class. Before graduating from Centennial High School (Alpharetta, GA) this past Spring, some complications arose in Brown's academic eligibility and Brown was forced to spend the 2009-10 season in prep school at Hargrave Military Academy. With Lorenzo not enrolling at NC State this fall, the original letter of intent that he had signed was washed away. In all reality, Brown was free to check out his options, commit or sign with another school. This alarmed many Wolfpack fans, who understood the commodity that Brown was, and that it was a guarantee that other schools would come knocking on his door.

While Brown will still have to sign his letter of intent,( he will do so in November) he gave NC State fans assurance tonight that he was still set on donning the Red and White, by recommitting to the Pack before tonight's scrimmage between Hargrave and Oak Hill.

"I'm coming back to NC State. I recommitted today," Brown told us. "I really came to Hargrave, because Coach Lowe said it was a good program that would give me structure, and that is what I needed in my life."

Over the past couple of months, Brown has learned a lot from his time at Hargrave, a school that prides itself in discipline and structure.

"It's been really good and it's been really tough," Brown told us. "It gives you a lot of structure, and it makes you really look forward to basketball. After all of the military stuff...you really look forward to basketball."

NC State's current 2010 recruiting class of Ryan Harrow, Lorenzo Brown and Luke Cothron is a consensus Top-10 class. We asked Lorenzo what he thought of his incoming teammates.

"I can't even tell you about this class. It's crazy," Brown told us. "I've played against Luke and I know he's real good. With Ryan being my god-brother, I know we'll just be able to do our thing back there in the backcourt."

With Brown solidifying his commitment to NC State today, the Wolfpack fans have reason to believe that things in Raleigh could be getting pretty exciting in the near future.

This guy is going to be the dagger his game is just as nasty as Ryans. I think of last years Marquette backcourt "amplified" with these two plus the guys( Mays & Wood) we have now. I am going to wear some tires out driving from the beach to see these two. Points lots of them thats all i can say POINTS !!!! The ban wagon is coming for all you blue wearing types so go ahead and buy some red cause i think ya'll might need it real soon.

RH and Lo being God-brothers is gonna make a good story during the Final Four in two years.

May be as good as the one about how CJL helped take his hometown school to the promise land.

Or the one about how Sid and Towe the 2 starting pgs on State's 2 NT teams came back and led them to another championship.

Nothing like a good daydream to get you excited about Wolfpack BB.

The true question is if CJ Leslie were to commit to NC State, where would his scholarship come from? Since we have none left. Do we take away Julius Mays, Josh Davis, I dont know?????

not *IF* but when C.J. Leslie commits to the Wolfpack it will be easy to make room for him, Johnny Thomas can switch from a basketball scholly to a academic scholly because of his GPA being so high and his injuries so all of that together will qualify for him to slide over to academic side and then open up the scholly for CJ Leslie. There is no worries there.

*I was kind of hoping for the news to be that Lorenzo Brown was going to be able to play 2nd semester this year, but I guess it is okay with this news since it will make next years class the number 1 in the nation with Leslie,Cothron,Harrow,Brown. WHOA! UNC who? HA HA I am ready... thanks Lorenzo Brown we love you !

I'm glad that LoBro was considerate enough to let potential suiters and Wolfpack nation know that he is still emotionally invested in NC State!

Some fans will still doubt that he is ever coming to Raleigh until there is pen put to paper.

Let them Nay-Say if they want. Harrow, LoBro, Luke, Sir Rich, Scott Wood, JV, Davis and possibly one more. That is an impressive 2-year haul for Sid!

I'm not one to get so hyped that I'll hand them a trophy before they earn it. But, I will say this, this crew should be able to compete with anyone in the country in two years, no doubt.

I can't wait to see instant chemistry with Harrow and LoBro. That is going to be the best backcourt tandom that we have seen since Fire and Ice, easily. Before that? Sid and Whittenburg. Did Nate and Vinny play in the same backcourt? If so, I'd throw them in there also.

    *****Breaking News********

Guys I can't confirm it with my source just yet. But I have heard from a extremely reliable source that C.J. Leslie's reason for not going to Kentucky was because he has no intentions on going there.I have been told that he is indeed deciding to stay home and be apart of the best recruiting class in 2010 and will be lacing it up in the red and white with his good friend Ryan Harrow. Their have been great bondings going on with CJ Leslie and some of the current and future Wolfpackers behind closed doors.

    Wow.

He was in the car on the way to Kentucky and decided to go hang out in Georgia instead.

I'm doing what everyone is saying which is follow CJ's "actions" instead of words. His "actions" certainly are pointing in a VERY, VERY, VERY good direction for the good guys.

Thanks as always for the info WPH. You guys somehow have somehow managed (in a year or so) to scoop everyone else for the big stories. Keep up the good work.

Zo, welcome back. CJ, come on home buddy. You will be a home town legend.

  46. Dof87 said...
    October 22, 2009 at 9:36 AM

I hope CJL does not feel the pressure or obligation to make fans of any school happy just for "showing up", and that includes NC State. Its a time of great opportunity for this kid that he should be enjoying every minute of it, but you kind of sense how tough it can get when everyone is talking about you and watching every move. Sometimes you probably just want take a break from it. I am not sure how well I would have handled it at that age.

Take your time CJ, you don't owe anything to anyone.

    October 22, 2009 at 9:40 AM

Why on earth would he be driving through Georgia "on his way to Kentucky"? I assume he was leaving from NC and not Florida, correct?

  48. Unknown said...
    October 22, 2009 at 9:56 AM

    Like the guy said.

    CALM DOWN.

The is NC State we are talking about. He might commit to GT or Georgia for all we know. That would fall in line with our school.

Take a cold shower. Pray. And then wait for the decision. It will probably be next spring.

  50. TruthBKnown Returns said...
    October 22, 2009 at 10:23 AM

I've gotten my hopes up too much for CJL. I've done that many times before as an NC State fan, and been burned. We have no idea what this kid is thinking. It is a positive sign that he did not go to Kentucky. And it's also a positive sign that he's become good friends with Ryan Harrow. And we DO have the 4th ranked recruiting class for 2010 right now, which surely makes us more appealing to about any recruit out there... Oh dang, there I go again! Just when I put on the brakes on my optimism for NC State basketball, I get my hopes back up again.

But seriously, other than a few positive actions on the part of CJL, and some nice "gut" feelings we have about this, does anyone know anything tangible? I am a little nervous about getting my hopes up over a kid that already dissed us once before.

Does anyone have any "real sources" on anything at all related to CJL? Or are we all just talking about our gut feelings? And could it be our "gut feelings" are being influenced by our DESIRE for CJL to re-commit to NC State?

(And RedFred, your post about the a-holes cracked me up!)

  51. Unknown said...
    October 22, 2009 at 12:11 PM

This is another gut feeling but one thing I think we can all rest assured of is its not going to take until freakin APRIL for Leslie to commit. We won't be going through another John Wall saga for which I am truly truly grateful.

  52. Wolfpack Hoops said...
    October 22, 2009 at 12:16 PM

I still wouldn't be surprised to see Leslie wait awhile to make his decision. It wouldn't be surprising to see it stretch out to near the end of the basketball season or after.

  56. Unknown said...
    October 22, 2009 at 12:42 PM

I beleive some folks are getting just a little bit too excited. This is a kid we're talking about, we'll all just have to wait and see how it unfolds. Hopefully it'll turn out to our advantage. But we should know that disapointment is very possible. Just saying.

  57. Wolfpack Hoops said...
    October 22, 2009 at 12:45 PM

^ Well the person that told us of Leslie's whereabouts is someone who has been spot on with their information up to this point and we really have no reason to distrust them.

We are just reporting what we were told by someone close to the situation and passing it on to you.

As far as being told that the information is "supposed to be kept quiet." We were not told that, and the source knows that we are reporters. Whenever we have been trusted with information in the past and asked to keep it quiet, we have and will continue to do so to respect the privacy of others, however, that was never mentioned in this case.

I was just about to say that IF he was hanging out with the NC State basketball team recently, surely SOMEBODY would have seen him that knows who he is.

All I know is he re-opened his recruitment. If he really is keeping his options open, and we're really still in the mix, I like our chances. Based on the players we have, and recruits coming next year, we HAVE to be even more appealing to him than when he originally committed. Surely he knows that if he signs on with us, that we can be as good as ANYBODY next year, then why not? Why go to Kentucky, when you can have all that right here?

I just hope he's really keeping his options open. If he is, then I like our chances.
