Who is Vincent Williams?

Vincent Williams is Senior Point Guard from South Dade High School (2009 Recruit). Monte Towe was heading up this recruitment and we've heard that Monte loves the way this kid plays. Our source told us that Sidney will accompany Monte to watch Williams play either the end of this week or next week. From what we're hearing Vicent is going to have to blow Sidney away to warrent an offer because the Wolfpack is still waiting on John Wall and are in need of a big to round out the front court. As of now Oklahoma, NC State and Georgia are the most interested according to the N&O, but Kentucky and Marquette were both recruiting Vincent hard. Williams had a lot questions about his eligibility early on which is why all these schools backed off.

We talked a friend of ours that has seen South Dade play and he gave us this assessment on Williams:

He's very quick, and can really score the basketball. He can really get into the lane whenever he wants to and has legit handles and has a lot of range on his jumper. He shoots from anywhere and was pretty accurate the games I saw. The thing about him is that he's careless with the ball and is very turnover prone. He'd be a good player in the ACC, but in my opinion not somebody who would have an instant impact.

I haven't seen any video on him so I can't give you an opinion, but I'd be shocked if Sidney offered Williams a scholarship. If word gets back that Vincent was offered then we'd have to believe that Sidney feels he is a premier talent that can provide an instant impact. We'll do our best to stay on top of this situation.

I really like this kids game. Hopefully he will wait a few weeks for Coach Lowe to evaluate him and for Wall's decision. Playing in front of 20,000 in the ACC or in front of a few thousand football fans at geogia is a no brainer IMHO.

Sorry, but I just don't see a reason to bring him in. Let Javi and Zo handle PG next year and then Ryan takes over in 2010.

^ i think that's the plan. Again, this kid needs to really WOW Sidney to earn a ship.

This kid looks, and is evaluated similarly to Farnold, huh? Lightning fast, can shoot, but turnover prone. The turnover thing CAN be corrected, but sometimes it is something that is in a player's head, and the game never 'slows down' for them. IMO VW could be a gamble. That'll be left up to Sid to determine.
So, in this scenario, after Farnold leaves, we could have Javi, Ryan and Vincent running point, regardless of Walls one year commitment. I guess the question is, do you burn a scholarship on a project/back-up PG, or could you wait for someone from next year's class that you KNOW will push Ryan Harrow in two-three years? Thoughts?

At least Sid is covering his bases. Remember how much "crap" we still give him about missing out on Jai Lucas and Chris Warren.

He also got a lot of crap for bringing in Marques Johnson, and even a lot for Javi. I don't think he can avoid scrutiny at this point, at least from a segment of the fan base and from the media.
Covering his bases is a good thing, IMO. Patience is, however, a virtue. We will see if V. Will. blows them away. If Sid makes the right calls, and has some thick skin, he is going to be fine.
