Gearing Up for the Bob Gibbons TOC

The N&O ran a story today previewing one of the biggest AAU Tournaments on the circuit, which just so happens to be right here in our backyard. Here's a few excerpts from the story.

"Some of the top high school basketball players in the country, including Raleigh Word of God's C.J. Leslie, are expected to play in Bob Gibbons' annual Tournament of Champions club basketball tournament over the Memorial Day weekend.

Leslie and his Carolina Cobras South teammates were a late addition, joining the field on Friday afternoon."

CJ Leslie has done quite a bit of bouncing around this AAU season as he's already played with his regular team Lake Norman, and joined his old crew from "D-One" in Virginia for the Boo Williams Nike Invitational (which we covered, in great detail) and now seems to be joining a new team according to Tim Stephens, the Carolina Cobras South. The Carolina Cobras South team will feature CJ Leslie along with Tayshaun Mabry who is still listing NC State, although we are pretty confident that he does not have a committable offer at this point. Here is what Bob Gibbons had to say about Leslie's decision to enter the tournament.

"I'm tickled that C.J. is expected to be here," said Gibbons, a basketball recruiting analyst for All-Star Sports. "When he is playing well, he is one of the best you'll find."

You can see what he means here. The Pack is still very involved with Leslie, but CJ remains wide-open in his recruitment.

The other Pack targets that we can confirm will be in attendance are Ryan Harrow (Atlanta Celtics), Mychal Parker, and Luke Cothron. All of whom we will be covering extensively over the weekend. So make sure you cancel your Memorial Day getaway plans and come support the future of the Wolfpack. If by chance you can't, don't worry, well be updating you all weekend long from the Tournament with videos, interviews and updates.

I am very excited to attend but my time is limited due to family demands. If WPH can do so, and if the credentials for the event include any details for scheduling, please pass info on.

Specifically on Ryan and whether he will be in Raleigh or Chapel Hill or a mixture of both. From the looks of it there is so much information to seek through due to the enormity of this event that it would be helpful before hand.

    Thanks

We've submitted all the necessary paperwork and are awaiting to hear back. Schedules should be out Wed. or Thursday, but we won't have the rosters in hand until Friday when we pick them up.

We'll do what we can to let you know where our guys will be in advance.

    ^ PackLeader,
I'm not sure of the cost, but i'm guessing there is a fee. It would be awesome to get a lot of people out there in wolfpack red. We'll be there filming and doing some interviews so come say whats up!

wph, are you planning on getting some video of the four big names currently on the board (Leslie, Cothron, Parker, and Harrow)? Also, in the Elite 80 footage of Ryan Harrow when he is wearing the black jersey, is that Parker wearing #41 in black?

It has been $5 a day for as long as I can rememeber. That gets you into all of the sites for that day. They also sell weekend passes for $10. Gets you into every site all weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, although some of the smaller sites don't have them available to sell). I assume the prices will be the same this year. I've spent many Memorial Day Saturdays driving between the Dean Dome, State campus, and Duke campus.

From past experience, it seems like they do their best to schedule it so that all State recruits and potentials get at least one game on the State campus. But if you're hoping to catch, say, all 3 of Harrow's round robin games, you're likely to have to go to all 3 campuses.

yep we are going to be have loads of video on all of our targets.

Yea that is Parker. That was the event where Harrow and Parker met. They were really playing great together and we had a lot of Parker video but State wasn't involved so we taped over it after we took out the Harrow highlights. Our bad. We'll make up for it this weekend!

wph, do you guys have any connections with other teams involved with Parker that may have some video? a quick scan of youtube turns up zilch. I could wait until after Gibbons, but where is the fun in that? thanks for the response and have fun this weekend. i'm excited about all the good stuff you guys will have coming out of the TOC.

State is also actively recruiting Jean Pierre (JP) Tokoto (2012, 6'5", WF, Menomonee Falls High School). Tokoto has already been offered by both Marquette and Wisconsin and is being heavily recruited by several other programs. He is scheduled to be at KU the first weekend in June. He will be playing for the Wisconsin Playground Warriors at the 17U, 16U and 15U levels throughout the TOC.

WPH, my bud up in Rocky Mount said Mabry was dumb enough to turn down the state offer a while back. And from what my old college suitemate told me (he now works with the cary news), Josh Davis and Mabry have the exact same game, so Davis probably replaced Mabry's scholarship.
