Got a question about Luke Cothron on defense. On offense he seems to be ... not timid but... not aggressive in regards to finishing strong. It appears as he is getting better at it and you even reported as much. But my question is, if he plays like that on offense. What is his defensive game like? I haven't seen much on his defensive game.

^ well he's really not a shot blocker, but more of a shot altering type player. He plays good position defense and is a beast on the boards. He is very fundamental.

Luke's game reminds me a lot of Tracey's

^ Tracy is probably a little more athletic, but I can see where you're coming from. I think by the time Luke gets to college, he'll have fully grown into his body and will be very similar in some ways.

I love Will Barton...that kid is amazing. Whats our chances with him?

^A lot of people think he's a Kentucky lock, but from interviewing him and overhearing him talk with other people, it doesn't seem like that at all.

I think he'll give the Wolfpack a look.

Luke definitely looks a lot a stronger and more aggressive in the post. Good to see he's taking his game to the next level. Now let's get him on board.

Good question Wolfpack4eva I was thinking the same thing myself. Cothron seems to be the quiet laid back type of player. But then again in the late 90's Kenny Inge seemed to always be asleep but then when game time started he turned into a machine thrown down dunks I hope Cothron is that type of player.

My question for you, WPH, Do you see him as a PF or a C in college?? His size and body type seems to me that he could play C considering hes 6'8"-6'9" but I worry since he is a jump shooter/ strech the def type of player if he would bang with the big men every play in the ACC. Similar to Costner, he was more comfortable taking a 20 footer than bang down low and get some fouls on opposing big men. IMO State still lacks a true Center, other than vandenberg, who more than likly wont contribute right away. Maybe Lowe would rather have athletic big men who may give up a few inches but can will rebounds and hustle large bigmen out of the game. Love the stuff ya'll are putting up here cant wait for interviews!!!!!!

^ Luke is probably as much of a true Center as you'll find these days. He could easily slot in as a PF but I think with the guys we have (Painter and Howell) you'd see Luke as the 5.

Although he can step out and knock down a jumper or two, he's been hitting the weight room and at Pangos he didn't venture off the blocks too much, and for good reason. When he caught the ball in the post he was attacking as aggressive as we've ever seen.

Thanks for clearing that up WHP. Knowing that he can be a true center really adds value to his stock. I know ryan and his family check out WPH but i was wondering if any of the other players being recruited by state that you have spoken with check out the site? I would imagine players like will barton and Cothron would like to check out some videos of themselfs. Other than state what other teams are really after Luke/ whos high on his list right now??

whats up with the will barton breakaway dunk? they allow travelling at pangos?

^ I know for a fact Scott Wood checks us out every now and then. We talked with Luke and Mychal numerous times so I'd have to imagine they've at least visited and Will Barton asked if we could write down the site name so he could check it out later. Other than that I'm not sure.

Luke has a huge offer list. Kansas, Bama, Florida, UConn just to name a few. NC State is high on his list right now, and from talking to him it seems like we're at the top, or at least very close to it.

You guys gonna get some merchandise out there for us? T-shirts, auto decals, etc.

<- I agree merchandise would be key. Im sure theres a local outfitter who could help out (ie logo joes or something along that line). Tshirts, Decals, Koozies would all sell IMO.

Man I wish we had another scholly to offer. I gotta say I'd like to have Parker though, it seems like he wants to be here and is waiting on us to offer. And you can't put a value on the fact that he and Harrow genuinely like each other. That goes a long way.

According to Scout.com, Parker has an offer along with Harrow, Barton, Leslie, Cothron, and Mabry.

    WPH is that accurate?

^ We have day jobs fellas. It also takes about 2 hours to upload a HD video. We're trying to get information to you but until we can do this full time, we have to spread ourselves pretty thin doing what we do.

BTW...an interview is uploading. Could be 30 min, could be an hour and a half. Just depends on the internet today.

I'm lucky enough to be a senior at NCSU and have been reading every post and comment for months now. I just wanted to say thanks WPH for being the best site out there. Can't wait for those interviews, thanks for all the hard work that has been put into this site...hopefully one day I'll graduate and be able to make some decent donations

    GO PACK!

Is there any particular reason why the wolfpackhoops vs barton 1 on 1 video has been removed? I'm guessing there may have been some recruiting issues since he said he would commit.

  27. Wolfpack Hoops said...

No recruiting issues at all. One of our goals is to be a site that shines a positive light on the NC State sports programs, and we comply with anything the University asks even though we are an independent website. The University felt as if it'd be better to take down since it "could" raise some questions.

We didn't ask Will Barton to play, nor did we attempt to strike up any deal with him. He walked over to me and started guarding me. Then challenged me to one on one. The whole "I'll commit to NC State if you win" thing was something Will did on his own when the camera started rolling.

It was just a video made for some fun and entertainment and we simply took it as a joke. With the recruiting stuff there is such a fine line...however they acknowledged that we did nothing wrong, they just requested we take it down.

    Dear NC STATE UNIVERSITY,
Lighten up!!!!!!!! Good God, WPH is doing something fun and good for the university. For crying out loud, we are sick and tired of the normal cut and dry news sites and treat the recruits like commodities instead of people. You finally get a freaking site that gets the fans to see these kids as they are...kids...and you try to censor them. Get over it. We are sick of reading GoPack.com...we are sick of reading PackPride....we are just plaing sick of it all. WPH is a breath of fresh air...cut them some freaking slack plase. They are doing a far better and more entertaining job than anyone you endorse! This site is starting to grow and is getting NCSU some positive press for a change. The positive fans that believe in this University are finally coming together and have a place to come! Give it a rest!

    Sincerely,
    Troup

    Troup,

I don't think this is something NCSU wanted to do but their hands were probably tied. With recruiting violations being so easy to commit, there is nothing wrong with them playing it safe. Relax a little bit, I don't think NCSU has it out for WPH.

Remember this is the same administration that went after the students for having the John Wall facebook groups. I understand they are trying to err on the side of caution but sometimes they do take it too far.

There was great debate about this when the facebook incident occurred. Someone commented that if the NCAA was going come down on a person for doing such, strictly for fun on his own time, and because he had ties to a particular university, then why is it legal for journalism grads from specific universities to write and print the same type of stuff about a recruit who may, or may not, be considering enrolling/participating in athletics at his or her own university?

WPHs: Thanks for all the hard work and extra hours you've put in. You've got the lock on the positive site for great info and quality video.

Your mission is obvious, the betterment of wolfpack basktetball. Keep up the good work, and keep it between the lines. Kudos for respecting the university's wishes!
