Luke Cothron Update

We caught up with 2010 recruit Luke Cothron last night and got an update on his summer since we last spoke with him at Pangos. We hadn't heard much from him recently and we found out why...

"I haven't been playing the past few tournaments because of my knees. They've just been sore, but I'm feeling real good now. I just wanted to make sure I was rested up for Vegas."

With Vegas looming, many recruits take a week off to regroup their bodies and get ready to get serious. It's one of the first and one of the biggest events that college coaches will be attending, now that the July evaluation period is underway. This will give Coach Lowe another chance to watch Cothron, who reportedly already holds a committable offer from the Pack. However, there is one problem. Luke doesn't have a team to run with.

"I'm not actually sure who I'm playing with yet. My usual team won't be going out there so I'm trying to see whats up."

Although not every team goes out to Vegas, it is rare that an elite player misses a tournament this big during an evaluation period. That includes Luke, who is making sure he's healthy and ready to be evaluated by the droves of coaches that will be flooding the gym to see him play.

So, what's the latest in Luke's recruitment? "Nothings really changed." said Cothron. And when asked if he's thinking about trimming his list anytime soon;

"I don't really have a set date for trimming my list. I'm just going to see how it goes, but I will say this, NC State will be in my top five when I do trim it. You can quote me on that."

    WPH,

Again, I appreciate the news. Is it me or does Luke like Chucky Brown?

Lowe putting a team together similar to '88 (hopefully without Charles "Amphibious" Shakelford)?

From his interviews, it sounds like we are in great shape with him, but if he sticks to his plan, his recruitment will be a long one. His plan is to sign in the late period and won't be taking any official visits till after his senior season. If we can snag an unofficial in this summer, it could bode well for us.

Personally, I'm curious to see where Leslie lands.

Brown, Harrow, Cothron would be a monster class. Let's hope that happens!

Brown, Harrow, Cothron and a wing (becuase there is always attrition) in 2010. So, let's put our support behind Sid & staff and give him the 6 years we promised.

Videos from the NC PROAM. I saw Mays hit a 3 in the first one. Tracy with a big time follow dunk in the 2nd one. Think there are others on the site also.

Yeah that's John Henson. I hear UNC's trying to use him at the 3 spot...and he's 6'11". Pretty scary.

WPH? Folks over on the Rivals site say that things may be heating up with Luke real soon and said they would let people know more on Friday. Are you hearing anything on that front or did Luke say anything else that would lead you to think that things may be heating up with him?

Good interview WPH. It too was short, but a lot of substance. (see I can dish out the praise too!)Great to hear about Cothron having us in his top 5! Who do you think are our main competition?

Luke knows there is a great PG coming in his class to NC State and a program run by a one time nat'l champion pg who WANTS to play inside-out. That spell's PLENTY of touches for the bigs, plus any extra garbage you can muster.

Some team a big man may only get 10-15 touches a whole game, but when State gets it's act together starting this year with holding on to the ball w/o unforced TO's then look for guys like Tracy, Richard and DeShawn to be in low with the ball in hand a lot.

Wouldn't that be premium info that people work hard to get?
